  1. I managed to do this over the weekend from Vermont - incredible route, and not even that many cars (the few I saw were very aware and considerate).
  2. Useful to read DCRainmaker's response to the update to show why this remains an issue (Use the "Jump to" menu on the left to get to it): https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2024/11/stravas-changes-to-kill-off-apps.html I get the feeling this is another one of those "executives make decisions to get themselves bonuses but then backfire because they don't really understand the product" events (e.g., Boeing).
  3. This is a pretty good price for a Varia: https://www.takealot.com/garmin-varia-rearview-radar-rtl515/PLID71785159
  4. My Redshift Shockstop stem arrived today from the US site. They have a 25% off sale, but the delivery is a significant portion. Worked out at: USD 143 Stem USD 66 Delivery R795 for taxes Ordered on the 7th, arrived on the 15th. Amazes me that something can travel that far in such a short amount of time.
  5. I think that recipe is from around 2015 and even though it works well, nutrition has moved on a bit. I just replaced the carbohydrate part with a 1.08:1 maltodextrin: fructose and it works well (I can get up to 120g per hour in like this, but I don't mind sweet stuff). Just add a small amount of oros for flavour.
  6. Does anyone know the current state of Clarence Drive? Looking to go for a ride there on the weekend.
  7. It's so good TP had to buy Indievelo to try and catch up
  8. Arrest the knob, and then arrest the other knobs who use this behaviour as justification for killing the other law-abiding cyclists on a Sunday ride (like always, the comments on that Facebook post are probably not representative of the whole, but paint a picture of the people we share a road with).
  9. This is pretty sad news to be honest - we knew costing was coming, but 20 USD a month is too much. Yeah you get Trainingpeaks as well and that is useful for some people, but looks like I'll need to check out MyWhoosh again (sigh).
  10. I support this way of thinking - when we make the buying decision, we tend to get swayed by weight, specs, value for money, etc. 6 months on, I think the only thing that really matters is does looking at the bike make you want to go out and RIDE!
  11. I got a Temu HR strap for the Garmin, cost around R100 and has lasted twice as long as the Garmin strap.
  12. There are many reported issues with the Tickr, I went through two (warranty replacement both times) before giving up and getting a different brand.
  13. I tried one in an emergency and it lasted 1/8th of a shimano chain. So only buy it if it's 1/8th of the cost
  14. That's what I buy as well - the free speed over the proper puncture-resistant ones is significant. And if you put OrangeSeal in, you can survive an M2 screw going through the tyre (don't ask).
  15. You will typically only get anecdotal responses here, very few people have tried enough combos enough time to give a proper data-driven response. I'd go to https://www.bicyclerollingresistance.com/road-bike-reviews?orderby=pr and sort by puncture resistance and then choose one of the top ones with an OK rolling resistance. This turns out to be the Cinturato Velo as well, so maybe anecdotal evidence is ok too
