  1. I believe the decline in road racing is also due to the following reasons: -Covid brought virtual training to the next level, making it easier and safer to train in the luxury of your home. -More options for cyclist in racing, i.e. MTB (there has been an event Attakwas Sat and a local in JHB), Gravel events -State of the roads (potholes, I wrote a carbon rear rim off last week, min cost to replace - R15k) -Safety aspect training alone on the road -Clubs organising races vs promotion companies organising races (direct impact on cost of races)
  2. If Gauteng Cycling is representing cyclists, should they not put pressure on Hectic Promotions to refund the cyclists or at least suspend HP as an event organizer until there is satisfactorily resolution?
  3. Just a thought, where is the daily license fee of R50 going to CSA? Should CSA not refund those R50 to cyclists?
  4. This is again a typical example of Club organized event vs "Business" Operated organized event. Club event has so much goodwill in people involved, where as a business wants to make a profit on each event as clearly shown with this event. I hope Hectic Promotions do the right thing around this event and refund the cyclists or give them a credit for a future event?
  5. My SMS said race has been postponed. Hectic plays it safe here by saying postponed as oppose to cancelled.
  6. Suppose any Hectic Promotions events in future should be avoided; they will learn hopefully? I can't see how they would be able to still run this event as a postponed event? Maybe their market strategy to silently "cancel" the event?
  7. In my opinion, the e-bike should not have interfered with pacing in the front. the e-bike should have sit in the bunch and enjoy the ride. Also the e-bike should not have claimed the 1st position in the A group (IMHO). What makes it extremely difficult is when the e-bike start pacing up a hill. On the mass start of the A-bunch, by the turn at SBR, the front group was down to probably 30 riders. This bunch got further split at Walkerville hill.
  8. Yes the same can be said; however I have seen Tshwane races, number collection is at least split 1 day in Pretoria and the other in JHB.
  9. Consider travelling from Pretoria to the start of this race, let alone number collection (both in JHB).

  11. Is there any other HRM already bound to your cycling profile in the Garmin 830? If yes, delete and search for sensor on the Garmin.
  12. What business wants to run at a loss, especially insurance companies? Think about the clients that never claims .....
  13. Not at all. Credit should be given to repairs that can be done on Carbon. I did my research. I dont trust 2nd hand frames any longer as I believe sellers do not need to disclose falls etc. which could be the start of carbon fractures. Also an older frame can have resin fatigue. Carbon does not warn like metal, it will just snap. See the incident with the Canyon carbon handlebar with a pro cyclist. It was pointed to the manufacturer when the pro cyclist eventually admitted having an incident which lead to the break of the handlebar.
  14. Totally disagree with your analogy. A snapped frame is probably a code 3. A cracked frame (depends on severity of the crack) is probably same as a scratch mark or dent in a fender. There are some good documentary videos on carbon repairs and carbon itself. Even an aged carbon frames (due to resin fatigue) can break/crack. A carbon frame from Mark Cavendish or Chris Hoy is probably not a good 2nd hand frame to buy because of the amount of power these guys can produce causing flex in the frame which is ultimately on the resin keeping the carbon fibers together. CBR can detect carbon issues; I would personally not easily buy a 2nd hand frame without having a company like CBR doing a full inspection on it. I would buy a repaired frame on condition it was done by a reputable carbon repair place, such as CBR as a repair report will be available.
  15. Depends on where the crack is? CBR gives a warrantee on their workmanship and also claims that repairs are done to manufacturers specifications. A 2nd hand frame is no guarantee there is no issues about to start with hairline cracks etc. I rather buy a repaired carbon frame then a 2nd hand frame on the proviso the seller disclose the repair.
