  3. Agree. Bekker School was the last straw for me too. And having Hekpoort inside the first 20km completely ruins the race.
  4. ps. Route has changed slightly cause of protest threats past Umdloti. You loop round Riverside after the start and then continue on the normal route. U-turn is now at Umdloti not Desainager circle anymore... Race is 5km shorter. http://www.tourdurban.co.za/routes/
  5. Rode in 1A. Two crashes in our group on Chappies... in the middle of A (which had turned into A/B/C/@/& after Smits). One immediately next to me about halfway up. Three bikes, I think. But nothing too bad, considering the speed. One on the descent. Rider wasn't too seriously injured (some blood and grazes) but he looked completely out of it. Not great. RIP to the three people who passed away yesterday.
  6. A ton of people took a wait-and-see approach this year. Should be back to full house in 2019. If not, the Trust ought to be worried.
  7. Really wonder what they're going to do here for Sunday... Right now it's a mess. [Edit because I can never get its/it's right]
  8. Try your luck with http://www.executivebiketransport.co.za I think they still have space...
  9. RIP ????
  10. 1A ???? Wasn’t quite expecting that! Time to kick the training up a notch or three…
  11. (And ASG no longer offers an early-bird discount)
  12. Indeed. From ASG: The organisation today made the decision following a minimal entry uptake on the MTB event for this year. “The Berge en Dale is solidly vested as a road race and the event is set to attract a record number of entries this year, but the interest in the mountain-bike component, which we introduced last year, simply doesn’t justify its presentation,” said ASG Group CEO Heinrich Dannhauser.“We discussed it with Bestmed and we’re in agreement that it’s more beneficial for all parties to focus exclusively on the road classic and add as much value as we can by leveraging their contribution and our resources effectively to ensure a fantastic outing for road cyclists on Saturday 24 February.
  13. Normally around first Tuesday of Feb, if memory serves…
  14. Two links worth reading/watching: 2018 Cape Town Cycle Tour WILL take place Lunch with Dave – Facebook Live Q&A (25 January 2018) This year's event will be entirely off the municipal water grid. Desalinated/purified grey water will be provided to cyclists at the start... Don't fill your bottles at home. More on this to come in next week's Q&A. --Some notes from Dave's video… FiguresMore than 50% of participants come from Cape Town (theoretically zero effect)Around 15,000 from outside of CT 30,000-32,000 of 35,000 entries actually start the raceAverage stay is 2.3 days WindNo significant set of data that says the wind blows any more or any less at the CTCT time of yearWind will blow 10km/h less at the new Grand Parade start than at the Civic Centre (importantly, there's no tunnelling effect) Civil unrestAffects all areas of society, target because its a large eventPart of the strategy is to engage with local communities + inclusion Work being done via Rotary in Masiphumelele - working hard to link this work back to CTCTMoving water point from Sun Valley (has to move cause of roadworks) to Masiphumelele – ownership of that water point to the community (funds to be used for high school Matric dance) There are six different alternate route options, if needed SeedingMinor changes are being made to the algorithm (he did not go into any details) - will be consideration given to the fact that there was a cancellation last year Road surface on Chappies "Not ideal" but not unrideable; it is safe to ride on"Would it be the first choice for us as cyclists? 15. No. The route had already been shortened to 78km (via Glencairn Expressway) because of protests before the first batch left. JOC was dealing with: 1. Dangerous and fairly unpredictable winds, with very strong gusts (not necessarily for experienced cyclists, but certainly for more social riders, had it continued through the morning); and 2. A fire on the Hout Bay side which, again, was unpredictable.
  16. Cape Town Cycle Tour Plans to Reduce Its Water Footprint to Zero
  17. Yeah, it was a week earlier. This seems to be a repeat of the Tshwane/Wilro/Mangaung mess... ????????????
  18. Seedings are updated after Sunday's festivities... Beta of 0.97.
  19. Mostly sensible riding in AL. The mess at the start (from "2 minutes to race time" to "7 minutes to race time" to "10 seconds" within a few minutes) could've been handled way better. I'm guessing that caused the absence of bike marshals from 10km mark to after 20km? Got dropped with a handful of others at the ±80km turn which cost us 3 minutes. Marshalling and road-markings both great. Congrats, as always, to Gerald and the rest of the Germiston Wheelers crew! World-class organisation.
  20. Log into Racetec and select ‘Query result’ on the menu.
  21. How 2018 Cape Town Cycle Tour plans to use zero municipal potable water Not surprising, but I am impressed with this level of detailed planning so far out. [edited to add article headline]
  22. A lot riding on the wind. Managed a 3:11 in this last year and a 2:54 in 947. Also, don't get dropped.
  23. Mine is there on Racetec/Pedalpower.
  24. Seeding index is updated from Sunday... Beta of 1.30.
