  1. As per Discovery: "Any road, trail or lightweight running shoe of any brand purchased from Sportsmans Warehouse within 30 days of activating your Shoe Booster benefit qualify for Shoe Booster cash back. Shoes that are not within these categories do not qualify for cash back."
  2. Might just be me, but the field seems smaller than last year...
  3. Yeah, realised this yesterday... about three months of training left! About what I put in for 947
  4. Passed these guys training in the Cradle the Sunday beforeā€¦
  5. Carnival (103km) 3:11 947 (from G) 2:54
  6. 77.8km/h, down to Heartbreak... Managed 99.7 last year down Cedar on a gravel bike Think the one thing we're all forgetting about last year is that horrendous headwind from the north (/tailwind down Cedar). That would've had an impact on the sub-3 comparison with 2014 for sure...
  7. I really don't understand why this isn't as strictly enforced as the organisers clearly want it to be. CTCT does a far better job at making sure there's a chip on every bike/cyclist. Based on the chaotic experience in loading, it seems as if the marshalls simply weren't (aren't ever) briefed properly.
  8. I can't see how they got to 33,000 if they weren't even at 30 by the time entries closed. No ways there were 3000+ late entriesā€¦
  9. Hit my target of a sub-3, so I'm chuffed ???? Some thoughts... Loading was better than last year, but still a messFor all the threats about chips and numbers and QR codes, I saw more than a handful of riders able to sneak in with either no chip or no numberKyalami was fun but literally blasted whatever bunches had been formed to smithereensThat U-turn onto Carr was less than idealCoJ could've made more of an effort with the road surface (Randburg CBD is embarrassing and dangerous)That final distance marking at the last Steyn City circle ("6km to go") seemed very suspectOn the whole, organisation an improvement on last year!
  10. Rode to Riversands from Fourways today... Not sure where this story comes from.
  11. I note Joburg's finest JRA are busy with their annual lastminute filling and fixing of potholes and cracks on Homestead at the moment ????
  12. Didn't notice one anywhere...
  13. LOL! 10% off all Oakley's is not too shabby... Some decent prices at Solomons too.
  14. Not just me thenā€¦ I noticed a definite improvement on last year. Lots more stands, far more variety. And some decent deals!
  15. Yeah, this has had an "interesting" side-effect on seeding indices... ????
  16. "that guy"... translated: "that c*@%"
  17. 6:15, you mean
  18. Ja, R55 is open. It'll take a lot more rain to wash that bridge away... One of the better-built low-water ones in Joburg.
  19. Me too. The "automatic syncing" of results is not at all reliable... Amashova didn't come through for a week (I rushed to submit on the following Friday pm. Satellite came through very early on Monday morning
  20. I'm in. Under no illusions that I've got a lot to learn from riders who are a lot more experienced than me (been riding road for about 11 months, MTB for 13). Getting significantly better with each race (only done half a dozen) but it's more trial and error than anything specifically tactical.
  21. Couldn't have said it any better. Learnt the hard way at Satellite... Three of us practically pulled an entire bus to Helpoort from the school after Harties.
  22. That DL bunch was FAST!!! Sat with them till about 26km/27km mark and the legs needed a breather... We were averaging 44km/h at that stage, if memory serves Seven of DL finished under 3 hours... Not enough rest before this race to stay on, but managed to recover... Happy with my 3:11. Would've been happier with something closer to 3:05, though.
  23. Any guesses as to what the Beta will be for yesterday?
  24. To Gerald and the rest of the organising committee, This needs repeating if only to prove that there are a ton of us grateful for the effort you all put in to deliver an outstanding race. 10/10 for every aspect of this event! Routes to parking Parking Crossing of the R554/Elsburg road to/from the start/finish Starting pens The most detailed road markings I've ever seen in a race!! Marshalls Traffic police Bike marshals Exit from parking The only gripe I heard from another cyclist in the entire day's racing (aside from the wind!) was that there wasn't water at the finish (only Coke/Powerade)... If that's the only 'problem', then you know you've pretty much done everything you can and then some! A tough ride. But, I'm rather glad the elements tempered my cockiness 'enthusiasm' after a good Shova and better Satellite.
