  1. Start groups are up on Racetec. AL
  2. ASG did allow collections on the morning this year. There were numerous announcements about it and the tannies were stationed at the Maropeng entrance booms (just down from the start/finish). I suspect (hope) this trend will continue...
  3. Parking chaos was far worse at the end. One hour-plus to get out ???? Understand this was a last minute change, but hope ASG make a better plan with Maropeng next year. But, a good, fun race nonetheless! Mostly sensible riding in AL. Great marshaling. Not sure which route I prefer, to be honest…
  4. S2C sold out all three on day one last year, IIRC. Now five weeks later, and only one is sold out...
  5. I see entries are (quietly?) STILL open...
  6. Of which one third is Hekpoort (just under ±350m)…
  7. Hacked this together quickly from my Strava activity from last year. Few km obviously missing from the start/finish from Maropeng off the R563/Hekpoort road.
  8. Entered!
  9. Was wondering the same thing…
  10. Sure + likewise! Also looking for one or two others to join my team...
  11. Early bird entry – R350.00 [To 31 October 2017] Normal entry – R400.00 [To 31 March 2018]. Late entry – R500.00 [To 15 April 2018]. Last minute entry – R800.00 [At race pack collection]. ????????????????????????
  12. Results here (in case anyone's trying to hunt them down): http://results.spectrumsport.co.za/ViewResults/SpectrumSport2017Results.aspx
  13. Agree. This was so much fun!
  14. I've ridden most of it previously. Not technical at all. More an outride, unless I'm badly mistaken. http://www.bps-mtb.co.za/p/route.html
  15. bump.
  16. Ja, Gerald, please get the committee to fill out the paperwork for the wind and get it filed early this year?
  17. Don't understand why these organisers exaggerate field sizes. At the MTB prize giving yesterday, they were talking up a field of 8000 riders for today! Barely 3300 finishers across both distances. Call it 4000 entrants (including DNF, those who didn't bother/were out of town/sick/etc)?
  18. Stuck with the bunch till the end... Some very close calls out in the sticks.
  19. Either section is generally fine... The stretch to Parkhurst from Ballyclare takes you past 'Gangsters Paradise' (behind PnP on Nicol/DHL). That said, I've never had issues there (or anywhere on the Spruit, to be honest). I'd be inclined to shoot up to Riverside, and would probably pick a Saturday. That area is generally very busy and there are a lot of people about from 07:30ish to 09:30ish for the Parkrun (which heads north from Riverside towards Cowley). If you want a spot at Knead before the runners descend, get there before 08:30, ideally at 8 (although I'm not sure when they open)...
  20. This actually looks like a lekker ride!
  21. Wrong thread, but yes there are reverse trips... Buses to the start from Durbs + buses back to PMB from the finish. Incredibly well-organised.
  22. As humans, we naturally feel different things after something like yesterday. I suppose the five/seven stages of loss could come into it, especially for those who had an extra special reason to race this year. A 10th or 21st Argus, a ride with family who aren’t likely to be in the same town at the same time next year, a special trip from Europe (or further). Of course it’s heartbreaking and depressing (and an enormous waste of money) for those riders who travelled from overseas. Even for us ‘locals’, this weekend was rather expensive holiday that we probably wouldn’t have otherwise taken. For me, relief. Not the relief that I didn’t have to battle in those conditions for 109km, but the relief that the sub-3 monkey gorilla is off my back for the next year. It was doable this year, but from 1G I knew I had to finish in the top 5% (of my group and my age category). That was always going to be 50/50 and down to a combo of decisions on the day and luck. In Sunday's conditions, my chance was far closer to zero. The pressure – mostly self-created in my head – had become that gorilla. Training had gone well but, as ever, I found myself dwelling on all the times I could’ve done more, the midweek rides and spinning classes I skipped. Guilt during rest weekends. One too many beers on a Friday. In the (mostly solo) ride out to Hout Bay and back before 8 yesterday, I found myself really enjoying cycling again for the first time this year. The cancellation was so utterly anti-climatic - it happened with barely a whimper. Here’s to next year. And that bloody sub-3 (and the treat of a (legal) second lap so I can actually enjoy the atmosphere in what must surely be one of the most beautiful races in the world). Every single one of you who are threatening to skip/boycott next year will be back. And deep down you know it. You’re just stuck in the whole ‘denial’ thing...
