2 full racing seasons including 2 Epics on Ikons (not the same set), not one puncture. I love the feel of the Ikons, they are predictable in the corners and fast rolling. I find them incredibly versatile.

    Smoove Lube

I really opened a can of worms here. Who knew that lube was such a sensitive subject.

@ChUkKy: If you have a look, those comments are in inverted commas, that indicates that they are not my words. That being said, why don't you invest in a Park Tool chain cleaner and brushes instead of using sticks to clean your chain and chainrings? I ran this stuff with no issue at all at Epic, no gunking up at all. Is there a better test than that? I think you're applying it wrong if you find it does't work, but, don't take my word for it. There are lots of keyboard experts here, I am sure they will help you. When someone tries to give advice or help out with something that a lot of people struggle with, be appreciative even if you don't agree. Sorry to say, but, there are lots of Hubbers that have really crap attitudes. It won't change my life if you don't use the lube. To those that have given valuable input, even if it doesn't agree with my review, THANK YOU!

    Smoove Lube

Hi all, I have been reviewing some Smoove Lube for the last couple months. Please note: I am not affiliated to the brand, I was not given product to review and was not paid / asked to do this review. I have used all the major brands on the market and have many years experience in the elite ranks. About Smoove: "SMOOVE™ – universal chain lube is a long lasting lubricant formulated to withstand even the most demanding circumstances. Whether in wet or dry conditions, SMOOVE™ is extremely durable and one application lasts a whole ride, effectively protecting your mechanical drive train components from wear and tear. SMOOVE™ also reduces friction, enabling you to unlock optimal performace. SMOOVE™ is self-cleansing, 100% biodegradable and solvent free." The Smoove Lube comes packaged in a neat bottle, application instructions on the back and a very fine applicator / dropper. The label: "Apply SMOOVE™ to a dry chain. Apply on the inside of the chain while turning the pedals to ensure that the lube gets worked into the chain. Let the lube dry for at least an hour. Best results are achieved if lube is applied the night before. Do not wipe the chain after application. Too much lube will cause lube residue to accumulate around the derailleur pulley wheels and cassette.Apply SMOOVE™ to a dry chain. The major test came at the Cape Epic, 8 days in some of the harshest conditions, even 1 properly muddy day. Almost 400 hours and 11000km since January. Findings: As long as the lube was applied as described on the label, it performed flawlessly! I am talking entire Epic stages without stopping to lube once, no other lube comes close. This stuff is the business, super impressed and won't use anything else. However, apply it to a wet chain or the morning of our ride / race and you're going to find yourself having to apply lube at the first river crossing or 50km into your favourite MTB trail when your once quiet drivetrain starts sounding like a rusty old chainsaw. Conclusion: If you are looking for a lube that's going to go the distance and keep your drivetrain quiet and lasting longer, Smoove is the way to go, no questions asked. Be sure to apply it the night before and exactly as the instructions recommend. I have given the lube to various people who have all come back swearing by the product. 8. Hi guys, Just a quick response: The importers are in fact legitimate. Natal Rubber has an import license and is thus used to get the bikes into the country without having to setup an entirely new entity. All warranty issues can and will be dealt with locally. We have several bikes and parts available at great prices. www.rushsportscycling.com is the main retailer. Feel free to e-mail me on: web@rushsportscycling.com

  15. Hi guys, My Zipp 900 disc was taken this weekend at SA vets champs. It was taken on SAturday morning. It is in a Gear Up single wheel bag with a track adaptor inside. There is a brand new SRAM Red 11-23 cassette on it and a virtually new Continental tubbie. Please call me on 0828827898 if you have it or know where it may be. Sorry to say but this must have been a fellow cyclist. A reward will be given to the person who finds the wheel. Kind regards, Bradley Stroberg
  16. Hi everyone, We will be doing our very first Christmas charity ride from Cycle Lab Pietermaritzburg on Friday the 24th of December, we would like to meet at 4.45am and start the ride at 5am. The route that we have planned is to ride up Fox hill, around the back of Dards, up Polly Shorts, back to the shop. The route will be about 45km long. Cycle Lab Pietermaritzburg will provide a backup vehicle with spares should anyone need assi...stance but please carry a tube and pump with you. Two bottles will be sufficient for everyone. We are planning to take around two hours which means that an average speed of 22.5km/h is on the cards. Anyone is welcome. Because this is a charity ride we would like to ask that everyone brings a donation of some sort, whether it is money, food, clothes, blankets etc. Your donation will be hugely appreciated by the less fortunate. Cycle Lab Pietermaritzburg will decide on the charities that will receive the donations. Please note that there will be no road closure, helmets are compulsory and please be aware of motorists. Riders are asked to ride maximum two abreast but only if it is safe to do so. The coffee shop will be open after the ride for anyone wanting a cup of coffee or a little something to eat after the ride. Kind regards, The Cycle Lab Team
  17. So how many hubbers have been through the doors? Any feedback, good or bad, would be greatly appreciated. If you havent visited us yet then make sure you do so soon. The 2011 Bianchi range is just 1 small part of our stock
  18. Burry runs for atleast an hour every week during the season and even more in the off season.... It has to be good for you, otherwise people wouldn't use it as weight loss. As a cyclist who runs atleast once a week I can definitely say that it helps my mind have something different to think about but more importantly my threshold breathing and endurance have improved dramatically since I started running. The points you make do make complete sense and as was said before, everything in moderation.
  19. Hi all, The new shop is finally up and running. Come check it out at 39 Commercial Rd, Pietermaritzburg. Same road as the town hall. There is still plenty more stock on its way. http://i392.photobucket.com/albums/pp8/babyball_01/Cyclelab/DSC00146.jpg http://i392.photobucket.com/albums/pp8/babyball_01/Cyclelab/DSC00147.jpg http://i392.photobucket.com/albums/pp8/babyball_01/Cyclelab/DSC00148.jpg http://i392.photobucket.com/albums/pp8/babyball_01/Cyclelab/DSC00149.jpg http://i392.photobucket.com/albums/pp8/babyball_01/Cyclelab/DSC00150.jpg http://i392.photobucket.com/albums/pp8/babyball_01/Cyclelab/DSC00151.jpg http://i392.photobucket.com/albums/pp8/babyball_01/Cyclelab/DSC00152.jpg http://i392.photobucket.com/albums/pp8/babyball_01/Cyclelab/DSC00153.jpg http://i392.photobucket.com/albums/pp8/babyball_01/Cyclelab/DSC00145.jpg Hope to see you all.

  21. Very sad news indeed. Condolences to friends and family. The saddest part is that she leaves behind a young family. Prize giving was already on the go when the accident happened. Not sure of exactly what happened but it sounds like the rider was turning and the car overtook at the same time. These races need to be more controlled by the traffic cops, I spent the day in the lead vehicle and there were far too many riders in the middle of the road even though there was not any road closure.... Please ride carefully, its the best thing you can do to protect yourself.
