  2. Team Barloworld ready to defend Giro del Capo crown After a strong start to the 2008 season, Team Barloworld is heading to Cape Town to defend this year's Giro Del Capo and Cape Argus crown. The races will be taking place from the 4 - 9 March. This year's team has been carefully selected, to ensure that each cyclist fully complements and supports the others to achieve maximum results in the race. "When choosing the ideal team to race in the 'Mother City', there were six cyclists that stood out as ideally suited to the Giro del Capo. They are the fast paced Robert Hunter, versatile Christian Pfannberger, 2007 podium placed Hugo Sabido, 2007 stage winner Daryl Impey, climber Christopher Froome and 2007 stage winner Felix Cardenas, who together make a formidable team," says Chris Fisher , Head of Corporate Marketing at Barloworld. Team Barloworld's cyclists that will make up part of the race peloton are: ? Christian Pfannberger (28) is the Austrian national champion and has been a professional cyclist since 2006. In this short space of time he has proved himself a talented and versatile cyclist who will now play a vital supporting role to King of the Mountains Soler in the future. Pfannberger recently took a podium finish and points jersey at this year's inaugural World View Challenge in February ? Robert Hunter (31), Team Barloworld's captain, is a South African sprinter and classic cyclist and has been competing professionally since 1998. Hunter, who has a wealth of racing experience for the team to draw upon, including 9 Tour de France rides, has 33 victories to his name, the most recent two sprint finishes at the World's View Challenge ? Daryl Impey (22), the young South African who joined Team Barloworld from MTN Microsoft, was particularly impressive in the 2007 Pick 'n Pay Giro del Capo, after winning the prologue and a stage and is one to look out for in this year's race ? Christopher Froome (22), a talented climber from Kenya, won the Tour De Maurice in 2006, a stage in the 2007 Giro delle Regioni, a prestigious stage race in Italy, a stage at the Tour of Japan and a silver medal at the 'B' World Championships time trials. Froome had a strong start to the 2008 season by winning the King of the Mountains jersey on the third day of the World's View Challenge ? Hugo Sabido (29) is from Portugal and has been cycling professionally since 2001. Sabido has 4 victories to his name, including a podium finish at the 2007 Giro del Capo and had a strong and consistent showing at the World's View Challenge ? Columbian cyclist Felix Cardenas (35) has been professional since 2000 and has 21 victories to his name, including winning stage one at the 2007 Giro del Capo "By living Team Barloworld's culture of teamwork and individual excellence and competing in world class races, these cyclists are on their way to being recognised as some of the best in the world. We look forward to experiencing the passion, excitement and endurance during this year's Giro de Capo and Cape Argus," concludes Fisher
  3. Not as far as I know.
  4. So, I've noticed there hasn't been that much speculation/discussion about the Giro del Capo yet - Guys, it's only a week's time 'til the racing starts! I'm literally counting the minutes 'til I can leave boring University behind for an entire week and go play (read suffer/die) with the pro's on the passes and in the gutters of the Western Cape, so let's make this a thread to get everyone's opinions on who's gonna win, what parts are gonna be the toughest, and all the other gossip! Here's what I know so far... Some surprise names on the startlist - Tom Steels (needs no introduction), Leon van Bon (former Dutch National Champ), Dominique Cornu (former U23 TT World Champ, currently on Silence-Lotto), Bart Brentjes (former Olympic MTB Champ, right?), Kevin Evans, Burry Stander, Shaun Davel. John-Lee won't be riding, unfortunately (or fortunately for those of us who are riding - That oke flies up the climbs). Zoon has been hinting that Neotel might ride some very light full TT bikes up Signal Hill (???). 25 teams, i.e. 150 riders. The prologue has been dropped. Stages are longer and tougher (in my opinion) than last year. 105 km 180 km 179 km 150 km 5.5 km Signal Hill TT. Which hubbers will be taking part? Any other interesting info, gossip, whatever-you-might-know, post it here!
  5. I think it's a pity that the Argus isn't a stage. Some teams will now have ten riders (the title sponsor's team comes to mind... cough cough), and some of them will have fresh legs, which is a possible unfair advantage (especially because of the tough nature of the Giro route). But hey, life isn't fair, I guess. I heard a rumour that Barloworld won't be riding the Giro this year. I hope it's not true, but can anyone confirm??? The event is much more prestigious with Barlow here.
  6. Prologue - 5.5km Stage 1 - 105km Stage 2 - 179.5km Stage 3 - 174.5km Stage 4 - 148.55km Stage 5 - 5.5km (Hillclimb TT) Gonna be a tough one, since last year's longest stage was only 129km. Should be fun, though.
  7. So, the stages of this year's Giro are on the race's website - What do you guys who know the area think about the route??? Looks to me like there will be a fair amount more climbing in comparison to 2007, and I see the Argus is also not part of the tour anymore. Such a pity that we won't do the Bloemendal climb again. http://www.girodelcapo.co.za/route.aspx
  8. Just made it show the hidden files when I opened it from My Computer, then dragged and copied them into another folder - Think it was the second one of your links
  9. Finally got it right - Thanks!
  10. Bummer, it doesn't want to work with mine - Says my iPod is using software it doesn't recognise.
  11. Tried this already but you can't see the music files that way - Only the notes, calender and contacts. Will try the other programs though - Thanks for the advice guys.
  12. Hi guys, Can anyone tell me how to copy songs that are on my iPod onto my PC? I want to remove some songs that I got from one of my friends from my iPod, but I still want to back them up on my PC. I'm battling a bit with iTunes. Please help
  13. Well I assume you agree Campag is the only rational route. If not' date=' then the entire argument is moot. So anyway, for my rands: Shamal Ultra: 1395g per pair. At R6,929.65 ( and you can them in gold which is not my taste, but is cool) vs Bora Ultra: 1305g per pair. At R18,049.01. 12k for 90g? Are you nuts? And I weigh in at 56kg (racing) so real deep section wheels become a handful for me in a stiff breeze, and performance per Rand, I'll take the Shamal Ultra's (even in Gold) any day. And I'm not a carbon nut... I ride a Scandium frame, with minimal carbo bits... Not that Carbon is bad, but my Rands... [/quote'] Those specs sound good (especially value for money), but I assume those are clincher? Tubbies just glide across the road in a way that clinchers can't even begin to compare with - I don't know the stats on rolling resistance, but just the feeling of riding on tubbies is awesome.
  14. Q.E.D.? What makes the Shamal's better?Phen2007-11-30 11:19:36
  15. Apparently everyone already knows about this. Man I'm really behind on all the news in cycling - stupid actuarial exams.
  16. November 28 Intaka Tech Worlds View Challenge The UCI's newest event on the global calendar, the 1.1 World's View Challenge scheduled to take place in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa from the February 2-7 2008, has received yet another boost after it announced yesterday that Intaka Tech has come on board as the title sponsor for the race. read more at www.worldsviewchallenge.co.za
  17. Did I miss this topic or something, 'cause I've never heard about this, but it sounds BIG. Apparently this will also be Barloworld's first race of 2008. "The Worlds View Challenge is the first event series of its kind ever to be staged on the African Continent and will include five UCI 1.1 rated one day events with UCI ProTour, UCI Continental Pro teams and National Teams competing in the professional element of the event for valuable UCI ranking points as well as R 650 000.00 worth of prize money" "A major new KZN-based international cycling event coming to Pietermaritzburg - the inaugural World?s View Challenge takes place from 2 ? 7 February 2008 and has four UCI ProTour teams competing as well as seven additional international teams in this influential UCI 1.1 status event. The World?s View Challenge is going to be South Africa?s first UCI 1.1 status series of events with the teams competing for a total prize cheque of R650000 as well as points for the UCI Africa Tour leader board. The R650 000 prize money is divided among the five races ? with the top 20 places in each race being acknowledged for their achievement. This cycling event will be the first of its kind in Africa, with both elite international cyclists and accomplished recreational South African cyclists being able to compete. The UCI 1.1 status ranking means that these events are the highest-quality events on the international cycling calendar. Pietermaritzburg and the KZN Midlands with its rolling hills, perfect altitude and close proximity to both ocean and mountains, makes it the ideal choice for major cycling events. The capital of KwaZulu Natal is fast becoming the cycling capital of not only South Africa but the entire continent. These races fall into the European winter season in the Northern hemisphere and will form a wonderful training scenario leading up to the International Cycling Union (UCI) ProTour circuit of races which are staged from March to October annually. The World?s View Challenge takes place over six days with five races on five days with a rest day in between races three and four. The five races all start and finish in Alexander Park but every day the distance, terrain and route differ. Professional women racing teams also get a chance to compete in their own races on two of the days with the ultimate aim being for one of these to become a part of the UCI Women?s World Cup in the future. The event is organised by Cape Town based Treble Group. Director Alec Lenferna spent two years in Switzerland working for the UCI as the Events Manager: Road. He explained: ?Each of the races will see a professional race leading off the front of the field with a limited field of recreational riders also competing. The professional racing field will see a total of 15 international teams competing with four of these teams being UCI ProTour teams and the rest of the field being made up of UCI Continental Teams or National Teams,? Leading Italian team, Team Liquigas, who came second in the UCI ProTour in 2007 will be competing as part of their build up to the 2008 UCI ProTour season. They are joined by another leading Italian UCI ProTour team, Team Milram. Both these teams have a long list of successful results in the European circuits and both recorded victories in the 2007 Tour de France amongst many others. Entries to this prestigious event will open to the general public on 30 October 2007 and will be on a strict first come, first served basis. For more info go to www.cyclelab.co.za" Does anybody have any info about this? What other teams are coming?Phen2007-11-28 12:44:57

  21. The guys in the red kit are from team Amore-Vita Mcdonald's - It's an Italian Continental team. Guy on the left is Shaun Davel. Shaun has signed a contract with them for 2008. Were these photo's on that Facebook group or what?
  22. Amashova sal seker weer live wees soos laasjaar.
  23. Some more good news for all of us Barloworld supporters Hopefully someone fast to help Rob in the sprints, and perhaps even win a few himself, like he did a couple of years ago when he took home the green.
