Saw these ugly glasses in the sprint on Sunday. Didn't realise they were Oakley's though.

Ruan is in the Netherlands. Raynold rides for Cycle Collstrop, which is quite a big team, just slightly smaller than Barloworld but also a Pro Continental team. Henning Jooste is also racing some crits in Belgium at the moment and so is David Maree.

Not many U14 SA champs continue riding until they are elite. I think if you go through a list you'll find that 90%+ of them have already quitted by the time they turn 19.

Beeld also likes to use the oldest photos they can find. Think I saw a junior picture of Burry the other day, and that was in the article about one of the World Cups where he did well.

Leading the Argus for 30 minutes is damn hard, maybe not a special achievement, and certainly won't count for much in Europe, but it's still a very hard effort, so don't take that away from him. I led it for (at most) a few minutes and the effort nearly killed me, hehe Good luck for Europe Luthando, and I hope you learn lots from the experience

Oooookay. More teams = better racing. A lot of MTN's results this year came from other riders - Thomson, Taylor, Van der Merwe, Evans, George, Nhlapo, Van Heerden (although, in case of the men's road team, the three mentioned above certainly must've played their part in getting the others in a winning postition). As long as this whole fiasco doesn't scare away MTN as a sponsor. Imagine SA Championships next year... No squad with 11 strong riders dominating teams with 3 or 4 strong guys. Maybe the road race will be more interesting than the TT (unlike this year).

Aha, this is the one I was thinking of - 22nd Cl?sica Internacional a Alcobendas y Collado Villalba - 2.1. He won the final stage, a TT. Short one, though. Three TT wins last year, but nothing near as big as the Dauphine. (Sorry for all the random info - exams messing with my head)

My bad, it wasn't at Trentino. I remember him winning a TT in a tour where Augustyn finished in the top 10 or 12, but can't seem to find it. Valve won TT's in the Vuelta a Murcia and Vuelta a Burgos last year, though. Phen2008-06-11 14:26:29

Think he won the final TT of Giro del Trentino last year. Will try and find a profile. BUT, I'm with Linnega on this - his all-round performance is very surprising (although, honestly I don't like Valve, so I'm a bit biased).

You make a pretty valid point in that last sentence. Other teams cannot pay what the Y'ello one does. As for the rest of it. Riders on all PRO teams receive pressure from their managers to perform. I'm sure the managers of professional teams X, Y and Z all tell there riders firmly when they aren't happy with their performance - That's part of professional cycling. Just look at all the flaming Greame Brown is getting from Rabo's management for not being up to scratch in this years Giro - I'm sure he got k***ed out on a daily basis.

Hopefully Bos doesn't also go and 'snuif 'n lyn' in his spare time, like some other big international rider who also had a special bike frame developed for him (500 000 Euro price tag, if I recall correctly).

OH NOOOOO!!! I really hope not. Have you seen how strong those mountain bikers are?! Would make the racing much too hard. Seriously though, Kevin would've made a damn decent road pro. Rode the crap outta all the smaller teams on his own at Berge en Dale, and he he was by far the smallest/lightest rider that did well in SA's TT.

I reckon there wasn't much truth to the story - Gossip in SA cycling spreads faster than anything imagineable. Someone else among the 200 odd people online would have heard something regarding this, had it been true. Clearly no one else knew anything about this, so it was probably someone trying to cause a sensation, or just someone who has their facts terribly mixed up. On the other hand, in the unlikely case that it is true, the whole community will know by this afternoon
