  1. Thanks, I'm lank stoked. Those pictures posted burnt a hole in my brain. Then it didnt take long. (a) LMAO cos I have 3 daughters playing next to me and while reading your Q it sounded like I had a new barbie. But you sound just like me. I also have this habit of refering to a bike in the efeminate form. which of course is debateable, but hell, its a thing of beauty. ANS: I dont know yet. Thinking a lot! let her arrive first. Only thing for sure .... it will be Campagnolo. How did you envisage? (B) gtracing just refresh me regarding what frame sorry?
  2. I dont even want to know wahat that costs just because its got Park Tool written on it! But mind you it will probably last the home jobber a really long time anyway. I like the RED Valvoline grease.
  3. so' date=' this is the "stray" you took in...? [img']https://assets.bikehub.co.za/legacy_images/smilies/smiley4.gif[/img] Yup!! .......and I'm done for the year! Ja sure, there is still more than 4 months to go of 2009 sah ...... yep, thats an eternity to refrain. And we all know what happens......all of a sudden.....maybe when you aren't even searching....you click on the next page....over visit the LBS and.................there she is.....irresistable!!!!drooool all over again. Happened to me last night, I bought a beautiful EddyMerckx frameset that came up on thehub last night!! yup its mine
  4. great example waynedude, the sante's look rare! ...just to add on... the"ex" stands for "exage"
  5. I have no idea! Would it look good on my Hanson? IMO this hansom has to be fitted with Shimano 600 i.e. biopace cranks I think thats the original setup. cos the two that have passed through my hands have been equipped like this. The one in fact had quite a beautiful light green metallic anodized finish 600 groupset. BUT, I stand corrected if thats not the case.
  6. Looks like you have been busy' date=' well done.[/quote'] H3ey Waynedude you've done terrific work with those. They look splendid
  7. Both!! Honestly though check for frame rust and work from there in deciding! Delgado's right check the condition. But I understand your dilema, I would want both. I would take Pinarello first though I think if shes good. They are just so scarce. The other thing always is price of course. Post some pics so that we can better help you decide, and probably end up hating you (lol)
  8. Hi Delgado, sweeeet!! thats a really nice bike Certainly one thats in very good condition. that Ofmega is a great find, in particular RD looks really nice. The "barrel" appearance is interesting, and man that thing is really new. I like the forward position limit screws. How bout a pic from side on pls to see the "barrel". I had a Ofmega Mistral crankset and RD and FD on a Tommasini whichI sold and boy do I kick myself for that (often). The frame is good nick! Battaglin's braze on detail flag on the top tube has always been really cool. The pedal is something different. I havent seen that before. Can we have a close up pls
  9. The challenge is that these components also receive a clear duco for finish and to stop the onset of oxidation. Particularly the cranks. The marine shine is in a long blue box and available at almost any good hardware store. Prior to that it may be worth a shot to give a bit of elbow grease with a rubbing compound (eg chemspec 40) . This is beige/brown in colour and as the name suggests is very very fine grit paste used by panel shots. So a very slight scouring action for oxidation build up. Sometimes the alu oxidation can be quite extreme and the component takes on a mottled appearance Warning its a lot of elbow grease. So I've wrapped a drill bit heavily with a fluffy cotton cloth and the drill sits in my vice. Battery drills are slower RPM and less noisy than electric. Easier! The best is to Buff very well, buff just that little longer after you think you've done it and then rinse with acetone. Now, to really bring it to life a fine duco with clear coat after. Simple hardware shop spray-can duco is cool. As a final touch once the duco has cured well is some polish like the marine shine or simple car wax. I have done this to a few stems that really looked dull and grey and the result is excellent. That deep scuff on the crank is obviouly more diffult but can be made to look a lot more inconspicuoustarboy2009-08-22 04:36:53
  10. American Classics... have heard very little good about them.. all show no go(od)
  11. you'll have to dissemble either way. i.e pull the spokes and nipples. If you have eyelets its difficult to cover each one as not to coat it, if you want to keep them natural. If its stripped you have a lot of choices: pro-spray, home spray (can works perfectly) powder coating is cool but may dull and get scratched, or even vinyl pro job(can even be printed in rad ways) I guess it depends on your budget.
  12. Remember that machined aluminium alloy does not have a natural shine finish. In engineering its highly polished using diamond pastes in for example moulding plastics like clear bottles, but this application is not high abrasive wear. Aluminium alloys being soft loose the shine very quickly. If you do buff it, wipe it after with power parafin cloth. Shiny? these pastes are causing the black residue after riding. Its neat that you really take such care of your bike, maybe we'll get a pic of this well loved item soon. But if it starts interfering with your life you may need to see someone. Also remember better shine can be achieved by angling the light correctly. And if all of this doesn't work, then only look at her when its dark.tarboy2009-08-21 15:50:39
  13. You either loose a lot of skin to get to that level or you've got loads of talent.
  14. Start your check by going to the dentist. Have your bone loss and gums checked properly. Do you clench your teeth when you ride? Or chew something? you might not even know your doing it! Then have a urine test for red blood cells Do you / have you ever had nosebleeds?tarboy2009-08-21 10:10:39
  15. waynedude, that would be a helluva coincidence. I must check for chrome. This coppi has no chrome or decals as she stands at the moment. She's a 62cm, with coppi embossed on the top of the seatpost stay and has the "C" with the wreath embossed on the crown, cut out "C' on bottom of the BB. triangle cut outs on all lugs. damn light frame actually. Will be resprayed before year end and decals already on their way from fast-decals (white). some white modolo team brake callipers and levers will finish her. Just looking for a Fausto saddle! Her name is 'TWITCHY' by the way. The titanio is a 58-59 not sure exactly when it comes to these slightly extended seat tubes. Damn expensive frame. Watched the last one reach over 600 quid on e-bay (frameset only).tarboy2009-08-21 09:58:18
  16. A big thanks to a very cool fellow hubber for this frameset.
  17. http://i714.photobucket.com/albums/ww144/tarboystuff/DSC00543.jpg This is the pic of my new pride and joy. The following is a pic of my other Colnago and just behind it lurks my Fausto Coppi. (the rooms a mess, cos I just moved house) http://i714.photobucket.com/albums/ww144/tarboystuff/DSC00544.jpg when I get around to unpacking the De Rosa, I post this special piece of eyecandy
  18. got a 63cm Colnago frame today...I'm a VERY happy chappy. very happy (it took me two minutes to type that line because of pure brain vs finger frenzy)
  19. wow gee whiz never seen anything like that before. No lugs. and typical alu fork and crown. How does he tighten the saddle post? Whats going on there with the gear cable attachment on the down tube? It looks like its cut away Please share where you googled that Waynedude. I've tried google keywords columbus max cinelli no luck what did you use? did find an awesome shop for bartape and cables though....!!! parker-international.co.uk
  20. Shopfloor service is great too! Always, always friendly and helpful. Real nice feeling. Great to have a #1 shop like this 6,1kms from my house!
  21. Sorry to hijack the thread with so many consecutives but while searching for this pic of the cinelli above in my bike box I found one of my favorite pieces of bike porn....
  22. Example (kind of)
  23. BEAUTIFUL LEVERS EDMAN I dig things that aint scratched just wanted to add that I'm in a twist about chroming simply because: Yes, its very beautiful and distinguishes a bike But it makes a bike heavy. spoke to a guy once at a local LBS who was pointing at one of his customers bikes in for a service. This bike the lugs and stays where mint chromed. But it had just been resprayed. That meant that he had to chrome the ENTIRE surface of the frame and then spray. The bike is estimated to have a 0,4 kg weight increase. I've stripped a bike a noticed fully chromed stays right up to the seat post lug and into the BB but before paint stripping it was half length sprayed. So orginal manufacture was to have that piece of tubing chromed before brazing
  24. Edman thanks for that extremely detailed run down. Brilliant! Big ups. I understand there are two kinds of chroming: Thin dense and hard chroming. The first is purely decorative and can be locally applied. The other requires the whole article to be dipped and treated. From that I think forks are quite easy apart from taking care to seal off the headset thread. However the lugs I can only imagine being thin dense sprayed. I assume originals were chromed preassembly and brazing. I also think that forks will always be more prone to deterioration for obvious reasons being close to the abuse of tyre whippings but also the stresses from the base material of the fork in its shock absorbant role thereby stressing the hard less elastic layer that the chrome is. Thats why lugs are often in better condition in comparison if the fork and stays are pitted or peeled. I am looking at first time execution In MGardens soon. (research behind me) taking in a corrado and bianchi fork soon and will share success/experiences/photos
