  1. HI and welcome to the hub and the darkside of cycling ... i do not have much info on training etc for you - also just started about 4 months ago. How is your bike? do you like it and are you satisfied with it? I am looking at the same one for my girlfriend who also wants to start mountain biking. ang good luck and enjoy mtbN00b2009-11-03 00:34:18
  2. what makes sense to me if i think about it is that if you are worried about weight while racing then maybe do not use it. What may work is if you have use it in your training wheels and on race day use your race wheels without sealant?
  3. you can buy the bottle and a normal tune and then put it into the tube yourself or you can go the lazy route and buy a tube with it in. I am not 100% sure about the rode ones - but heart a few people talking about using slime in road bikes
  4. I use them in my mountain bike all the time. only once got a puncture because of a 6 inc nail that forced it way into my tire leaving 2 big ass holes in my tube .. the holes was to big for the slime to seal it BUT -and there is always a but - after closer inspection a saw about 10 small holes sealed with blue tire sealant. i replaced the tube with a normal tube ( no sealant) and went on a training ride ... and about 2 km later i had to change tubes due to a puncture . replaced it with a tube with sealant and about a month later still no flats ( which includes training and 1 race) ... so for me it works... just remember it is only there to seal small holes - on the bottle it normally says the size of the hole it is capable of sealing .... small thorns etc but big ass holes caused by steel wires and nails will not be sealed.
  5. Ok noob question - what do you mean with the 1:1 and 2:1
  6. just one question - does certain shifters only work on certain derailers? what should i keep in mind when buying shifters?
  7. yes please explain.
  8. about how much are they? are the XTR better than the XT?
  9. I have the following (hope it is the correct names) * Shimano Altus front derailer * Shimano Acera Rear Derailer Which will work best? 1) Shimano SLX M660 SHifters 2) SRAM X-7 Trigger Shifter 3) SRAM X-7 Twist Shifter or any other recommendations?
  10. I also had a click sound coming from my crank = first thought it could be the BB or some bearings. Then i bought new pedals (just because i wanted to) and then mysteriously the sound was not there anymore
  11. thanx - so i will not brake the thing if i put it the other way around?
  12. Can you put a stem up side down or can it be put up only in one position?
  13. what is good shifters that I can look at? I am fairly new to the whole cycling thing - does not worry about the weight but have a limited cycling budget

  19. and the wallet ......
  20. I have ProMax mechanical disc, 160 mm rotor (not sure of the precise name). But whenever i brake it makes a weird sounds and almost feels like if the discs wobbles . the disks looks perfect. I do not have a problem in braking at all. do you perhaps know what it can be?
  21. cool man will do so
  22. thanks guys - i appreciate the response. will go and ride and test and see what works and what fails - and maybe test my medical aid a bit (who knows) i think my main problem here is my body position if i look at what Bos posted ... I already noticed that if you get an obstacle it is most of the time just better to go at it than braking... for me it feels most of the time that i can get easier over obstacles at a higher pace than trying to ride slowly over it ... it sucks to be a noob
  23. I have a riserbar on. will try to improve my technique first before spending money on new parts
