What is the best way to secure your bikes on a bike rack/carrier. I have one of those holdfast carriers (takes 2 bikes). What kind of locks can i look at, how do you tie it down so that it doesnt swing around and scratch etc?

I have done about 500km (not more) on this bike. So everything is still in good nick Just spoke to my LBS and they have 8spd shifters (shimano acera rapid fire) if i remember correct for about R450. Maybe i must buy it for now (start saving) and when my casette etc are worn upgrade to 9spd?
