  1. cool looking, but i doubt it's practical - leaning forward to pedal on that seat may not work for males. "Bicycling to work may be the way to go for some, but parking could still be an issue. That's why Jruiter Studio has come up with the "Inner City Bike". It boasts an ultra compact design and has no chain to boot" http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g77/krazy-eyes/inner-city-bike-1.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g77/krazy-eyes/inner-city-bike-2.jpg
  2. link to website?
  3. yes it's safe on your own - as long as you chain the bike to your ankle at night, sleep with your shoes on, and have a tent that cannot be cut with razor blades in the early hours of the morning. petty crime (and stone throwing) is the national sport.
  4. ja, get bibshorts..... REAL manly kamikaze2009-10-28 01:46:37
  5. so the 3 year old in the complex is a "cyclist behaving badly" when he rides on the wrong side of the driveway. or the mafuta riding to work is "giving the sport a bad name" becasue he's not wearing a helmet? people stereotype themselves. cyclists want to be known as cyclists, becasue it means somethig to them, then when their pseudo identity gets attacked, they freak out. all your friends talk about "you cyclists" because there is WAY too much spandex in the world.
  6. This goes out to all those who complain about cyclists ?behaving badly?: Cycling is an activity, not an identity. Cycling doesn?t define who you are as a person. No one cares if you think cycling is the centre of your universe. Other people don?t see you as a cyclist, they see you as just another person. Other cyclists don?t share YOUR view of what the image of the sport should look like. The general public isn?t even aware that the sport is an entity with an ?image?. Thus, no one can give the sport a ?bad name?, because the general public needs to actually give a damn about something before they can have a view on it. So stop being so touchy about other cyclists doing ?wrong? in your eyes, because as much as you think it might be, the so-called offense is not a personal attack on your identity as a person. . kamikaze2009-10-26 03:06:30
  7. i've been cycling for 19 years, and i STILL dont get why "cyclists" shave their legs. every person i've ever asked has given me a different reason for doing it. "i dont want ingrown hairs when i fall" do you fall THAT much? "i want to be more aerodynamic" and shaving a few hairs will make you faster than armstrong? "i'm gay" yes you are! kamikaze2009-10-18 01:47:28
  8. there must have been 12 people coming and going at that time, NO one else was accosted. last time i checked, if a place is private property (like the complex i live in) there will be a boom or gate and residents have a gate remote, and visitors sign in - neither was taking place here. so if access control is restricted due to it being "private property" , why does this only apply to whiteys on mountain bikes. from the 1st guy whistling to the last guy's bottle hitting the fence must have been 3 seconds at most - there was no time to think, "hey what are these guys on about? maybe i should stop to hear?" these guys were acting with serious premeditated agression towards me (without any provocation from my side), so why stop to receive further abuse? (especially in light of jambo's sterling reputation) i made a judgement call, and that was to get out of dodge! stuff it! if i had to do it again, i still wouldn't stop. think what you want, but that is "my final answer" - over analyzing it from the sidelines wont change a thing. kamikaze2009-10-15 11:48:24
  9. what threat does a cyclist pose while looking in a window at 4ways crossing (ie. not moving at speed through crowds on the pavement)- no threat. what threat does a cyclist pose in an open veld while there are literally hundreds of potential hi-jackers and rapists moving freely to and from between the shacks and the road - no threat. to hell with security guards, they think they have a grasp on why they are there, but they dont. they're always quick to over-interpret the rule book, and apply it to everyone who vaguely fits the description. they all struggle with an over-inflated sense of authority and an inability to use judgement for fear of getting in trouble with the "baas". or perhaps they revel in the fact that they have authority over someone they wouldn't have 20 years ago. no doubt these clowns were told that no scramblers were to be allowed on that patch of dirt. conveniently to the guards, this also applies to the white guy on his bicycle because the difference between a white guy on a bicycle and a white guy on a scrambler is so miniscule, they better apply the rule to both incase they get in trouble with the "baas" kamikaze2009-10-14 07:19:47
  10. the squatters aren't the issue, you'd be surprised how friendly poor people are. anyway, what is the problem of passing a squatter camp on a 30km route?
  11. So yesterday at about 12 I went for a ride on one of my usual routes out north on cedar rd. I turned right off cedar into the veld just past the dainfern entrance as I have a million times before. At this spot there are ?Jambo security? offices. Now, as mentioned, I have ridden past here many times before, but this time was different. There was a guard (no.1) standing at the ?gate? who started whistling and shouting trying to get my attention as I rode past. I don?t concern myself with idiots whistling as such an idiot could be whistling at any of the 30 pedestrians around me. Plus, I?m not breaking my speed for someone I don?t know, or don?t care to get to know. Then another ape (no.2) started shouting and waving his arms at me. Again, I don?t stop for motherf***ers. Here?s why ? ape no.3 then threw a bottle at me, but lucky for me it hit the palisade fence and shattered into hundreds of pieces instead of hitting me in the head or face. Why did this happen? I honestly have no idea. I DO know however that jambo has reputation for assaulting people on two wheels at Daytona which is on the other side of the river from where I was ? a father and son were riding their mx bikes when jambo pounced and assaulted the father in front of his 5 year old, and ?confiscated? the bikes, which subsequently disappeared. When charges were laid the police dockets also disappeared. Jambo claims the two were trespassing on their clients? property. I have never seen any private property signs on this particular piece of land, but even if it is private property, why would they get violent with a lone cyclist if there is a SQUATTERCAMP 200m from the entrance?!!!!!! Do they throw bottles at the squatters too?! Do they harass the squatters too?! Do they stop and interrogate the 100?s of taxis that come and go on a daily basis too?! I think not. http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g77/krazy-eyes/jambo.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g77/krazy-eyes/jambo1.jpgkamikaze2009-10-14 02:27:24
  12. response to 1sr post - wash your car!
  13. sounds gay
  14. to complete the look, it just needs a few "NOs" stickers and a downforce wing
  15. my dad once made eye-contact with a lady driver at an intersection. this was just before she drove into him! so eye-contact counts for nothing in my book ps. as for the misnomer that men cannot multitask. try landing a plane - there are about 8 things that simultaneously need your attention right before you touch down. guess what!? a LOT of men are pilots!kamikaze2009-10-12 08:05:07
  16. time to move to lenasia
  17. why are the shocks and rims not gold?
  18. no don't wait and see, run/bed them in. it takes 5-10 minutes, and afterwards the brakes WILL work. i'm in fourways, if you feel you need help, give me a shout.
  19. VERY IMPORTANT! discs MUST be run in, otherwise you will squeeze till you go blue in the face and still not stop. here's how: 1. find a long down hill. 2. ride down it at about 25 - 35kph. 3. brake until you come to a dead stop. repeat process a few times for both front and rear (hence finding a long down hill so you don have to go back to the top every time) you will notice that by the 3rd or 4th time you stop the brakes suddenly work a LOT better. by the 6th time you will have to be careful of going over the bars. what this does is it "mates" the pad to the disc on a microscopic level, which in turn maximises pad to disc friction. dealers forget to tell you this. kamikaze2009-10-09 06:46:28
  20. didnt read many of the other replies, but here's mine: from the offset it sounds like you are stuck with rubbish disc brakes. but that aside, discs ARE better for the following reasons: 1. wet rims dont affect your braking anymore. 2. buckled rims dont affect your braking anymore 3. taking the wheel off doesnt involve hassling with releasing the v-brake cable hanger first. 4. no more aligning brake pads to the rim (or trying and failing). 5. they DO stop better than other brakes - way better! trust me, i have sukkeled with cantilever brakes throughout the nineties and hated every moment. then v-brakes came, and although they stop better than old cantilever brakes, they didnt solve the problem of a bent or wet rim. a lot of th effort put into braking with cable brakes is lost as a cable stretches no matter what, hydraulics have a complete transfer power with no energy lost along the way. plus, disc brakes virtually set themselves up when you replace the pads. discs brakes evolved out of a need - better stopping power and simplicity with fewer parts. i used to have magura louise, and now have hayes stroker. the louise worked very well, but the hayes is out of this world! kamikaze2009-10-09 06:34:53
  21. ok, this incident took place....wait for it....wait for it... near the lion park! that's right guys, the braamfontein spruit now runs past the lion park, or maybe there is a lion park on the braamfonteinspruit now. 1st it was on the spruit and two people were held up. now it took place near the lion park and 6 bikes were stolen. either way someone out there has his facts mixed up. sorry for the hype. i dont know how much of this story is fact and how much is fiction
