  1. how big H? how do you explain to a proud person that he is making a balls-up of a job by spending all the money on himself and not planning ahead, and that he needs you to get it back on track?
  2. hope cycle lab wins! (+ costs) sounds like she's out to make a quick buck off consent she gave verbally (but denies now, because the recession is hitting her pocket too)kamikaze2010-05-05 07:10:37
  3. bike lane? bike lane? bike lane = exclusive taxi do what they want lane i actually DONT want cycle lanes 'cause they'll build them on the verge and take away what is my playground. joburg has some excellent single tracks on the side of the roads. pfffft, like the goverment will spend money on a rich whiteman's sport in any way shape or form when they could rather buy another merc, go shopping in dubai with the extended family, or have a R8million banquet at one of their sandton homes.... do what i do: hold onto taxi on uphills, free-ride the downhills, smile for the rest of the day
  4. yale security shop at fourways mall, or the security shop at cresta next to edgars. (or any security / gun shop) its not that expensive, about R150
  5. if my wife is in any danger i will go into "rage-mode" without contemplation
  6. statistically your chances of immobilizing an attacker with pepperspray are MUCH greater than with gun, nevermind a peashooter (.22). pepperspray wont make him angry, it will make his lungs burn and wheeze, experience a feeling similar to asphyxiation, make his eyes feel like they are exploding out of their sockets, make his eyes burn like fire everytime he opes them (for up to a week afterwards), it will make him drop to the ground and beg for mercy. that's when you rob HIM of HIS possessions and clothes and stick his gun up his arse after cutting off his trigger finger and severly breaking all the others. plus, pepperspray is non-lethal, so your chances of being charged with attempt at murder afterwards are zero (that is if you choose to report the incident)kamikaze2010-05-03 07:44:44
  7. yes, and expensive at around R5000
  8. spray en ry!
  9. i just bought a 2nd hand bike with these brakes. the levers have a lot of play in them which i'd like to sort out. is there some sort of service kit available for these brakes?
  10. pepperspray is of no use if it is in your pocket or in your backpack. it must be within easy reach, and it is essential that you practice grabbing it so that when you need it it is an action that requires no thought.
  11. spoken like a true rookie. it is abundantly clear that you have never used pepper spray or seen it in action.
  12. there are a lot of bike-jackings taking place. we need to be proactive and be prepared. why? some people think that not resisting will save your life, but have you concidered this? who said the gun is loaded, or is real? for all you know they are using a bb gun to rob you. but worse still, who said they will let you live if you dont fight back? stop being so naive and fight back people! some say; "just accept it" i say - TRY ME! i ride with pepperspray and it WORKS! it is permanently attached to my camelbak shoulder strap, easy to reach and use. i have used it more than once in sticky situations; a. two security guards who tried to rob me of my bike whilst i was shopping b. attempted car hijacking whilst driving. let me tell you, the offender goes down like a sack of potatoes (even if you dont get him directly in the eyes) because the pepper causes his throat to close up. a friend used pepperspray on someone and the offender couldnt see/open his eyes a full week after the incident. another friend stopped an attacker dead in his tracks with pepperspray when the offender tried to grab his wife's camera. in all four cases the attacker was completely taken by surprise because they weren't expecting resistance. unlike a stungun, pepperspray can be used at a distance of up to 7m, so if the offender has a knife you dont have to get close to use it. statistically it has a higher "stop-rate" than a fire arm it is a worthwhile investment. make sure to get the direct stream (not mist/fog). i use SWAT because the design lets you grab it the right way first time without having to unlock complicated safety catches etc. i practice grabbing and aiming my pepperspray while i ride, that way when i need it it becomes second nature. i pitty the fool who takes me on (again) http://www.swat.co.za/about_us.html http://www.swat.co.za/48ml_direct.html kamikaze2010-05-03 06:22:30
  13. Have to agree. Is a bike really worth loosing your life over. who said the gun is loaded, or is real. for all you know they are using a bb gun to rob you? who said they will let you live if you dont fight back? stop being so naive and fight back people! some say; "just accept it" or "ride elsewhere" i say; SCREW THEM! - TRY ME! i ride with pepperspray and it WORKS! it is permanently attached to my camelbak shoulder strap, easy to reach and use. i have used it more than once in sticky situations; a. two security guards who tried to rob me of my bike whilst i was shopping b. attempted car hijacking whilst driving. let me tell you, the offender goes down like a sack of potatoes (even if you dont get him directly in the eyes) because the pepper causes his throat to close up. a friend used pepperspray on someone and the offender couldnt see/open his eyes a full week after the incident. another friend stopped an attacker dead in his tracks with pepperspray when the offender tried to grab his wife's camera. unlike a stungun, pepperspray can be used at a distance of up to 7m, so if the offender has a knife you dont have to get close to use it. statistically it has a higher "stop-rate" than a fire arm it is a worthwhile investment. make sure to get the direct stream (not mist/fog). i use SWAT because the design lets you grab it the right way first time without having to unlock complicated safety catches etc. i practice grabbing and aiming my pepperspray while i ride, that way when i need it it becomes second nature. i pitty the fool who takes me on (again) http://www.swat.co.za/about_us.html http://www.swat.co.za/48ml_direct.html kamikaze2010-05-03 06:09:03
  14. how hard can it be to set up a sting operation in liason with a local security company and the police? the facts: 1. we know these guys are waiting at the "paintball ruins" at the grass farm 2. we know that they do it on saturday mornings 3. we know it is the same duo - one with a gun, and one with a knife 4. we know their escape route is across the river towards diepslut so why can we not: 1. send in two undercover cops on bikes to get "hijacked"? 2. can we not have a few armed guys in camouflage lying in the grass around the paint ball area as back up? 3 have armed guys wait at and block their points of escape as a back up measure? 4. make an example of these F@#$%rs!? everyone is quick to bitch, or choose to avoid the area like the plague, but why should we back off in fear and find new "safer" places to ride? c'mon people, we are all grown men! we have contacts, resources, organisational skills, and time. how hard can it be to set up a sting for these guys????? we need 20-25 people to sacrifice maybe two consecutive saturdays and i guarantee you we'll catch them red handed. how can two thugs terrorize us like this? lets take a stand!

  16. all these programs seem to get it wrong when it comes to background music which is ALWAYS annoying/too loud/ not fitting
  17. 1. i went in there the other day looking for a used tyre to put on a mountainbike i was giving away. the cheapest tyre they had was R240. i explained to them that i didnt want to spend that much, and that i was willing to pay R50 for a used tyre. (surely they had an old tyre lying around in the back) they told me to buy a new tyre or p!ss off. i then out of principle went bought a new tyre from sportsmans warehouse. 2. cajees replaced the axle on my rear wheel. two weeks/150km later the cones were loose again(no i didnt fall or jump off a wall etc). i went back and tuned them. they kept the wheel for 3 days, and said come fetch it on saturday. i went there on the saturday and they had forgotten about the wheel. i waited for about an hour and a half for them to fix it. all the while they insisted that it was not their fault. i insisted that it WAS. they then even tried to get me to replace the hub due to the damage that was apparently caused from riding with loose cones. i threw my toys. then suddenly their tune changed and there was no damage to the hub anymore. they fixed it...albeit grudgingly. 3. the kid next door booked his mtb in for it's free 1st service (and new brake pads) with cajees. upon arrival they told him it would be R750. i told him to go to cycle lab - the guys at cycle lab quoted him R500 and offered to give him a ride home as well. kamikaze2009-11-16 08:51:03
  18. i used to support cajees and avoided cycle lab. now i only suport cycle lab. here's why - cajees used to be cheap, and cycle lab expensive, but things have turned around. cajees have this attitude of "support us or p!ss off" the client service at cycle lab is WAYYYYYYYY better and more friendly!!!kamikaze2009-11-16 07:07:35
  19. and be associated with those gays.....never!
  20. i love this forum, so easy to get the blood pressures up
  21. what! and break my momentum and speed?
  22. every afternoon, be it on the outskirts of joburg or on the braamfontein spruit, i encounter people (or people with dogs on long tangly leashes) who are oblivious to the fact that i'm bearing down on them from behind at 30+ km/h. (i dont know why, but they always seem to have their backs facing me) now, on the one hand i am greatful to these pedestrians as it is the soles of their feet which have treaded out the single track that i am so eagerly enjoying, but on the other hand i dont want to have a collision with them either. what do i do? a friend has suggested i bark like a rabid rotweiler. this is VERY effective (i mean people literally dive headlong into the bushes and out of the way), but my throat gets sore after the 3rd bark. BARK! BARK! kamikaze2009-11-12 02:23:36

    Dogs

try riding on the braamfontein spruit! in the afternoons you will encounter a dog walking a human at least once every 3km. either the dogs aren't on a leash, or the leash is one of those reel-out 30m lines. either way, the dogs and the leashes will almost always run diagonally across the single tack just as you are about to pass them. slow down, or ride over the dog, it makes no difference - the arrogant owners usually scream at you for "riding too fast" or "scaring their dogs"! what gets me is how oblivious these people with their dogs are to the fact that the spruit is a VERY busy cycling track. they (the humans) seem to get the fright of their lives as you approach from behind. i think i need an airhorn or something......kamikaze2009-11-12 01:44:25
