  1. Many thanks. Shifter on handlebar ...always wanted to change to 1 x 10. I have a clutch and it normally stays engaged. Longer in teeth sounds better then normally
  2. and I use only the small ring in front in anyway. and that is where it is. I feel duh this morning
  3. No damn I meant the front derailleur..damn damn damn... Monday morning fog
  4. I am not very technical minded but have a fair dose of common sense. But that means nothing when dealing with chains, cables, derailleurs etc I had a good old crash yesterday and my shimano rear shifter is kaput. klaar . gedaan. Cable have a kink and so on. I decided just to remove the cable and shifter, since shifter will have to be replaced or repaired. I have a two by ten, which now is a one by ten???? Can I go ahead and mtb until I can replace or fix???
  5. Interesting thought!! But I love it when the dogs are joining in.
  6. The wildlife we encountered this morning onHoogekraal in Cape Town.
  7. Definately Hooggekraal and Contermans Kloof. I struggle to get my face back to normal from all the grinning. Magic. BTW it is in Cape Town. Just in case you don't know.
  8. OMG someone have hit that one ON the nail. I sometimes get the feeling the twenty niner is more a fashion accessory then anything else.
  9. Thanks to Rob and the whole team for today's ride. It was awesome. Single track was great fun and rock garden Rocks. See you on the mountain.
  10. thanks guys. It really is mountain biking. Where do you guys mountain bike when you are not being funny
  11. Anybody in Nahoon area going for rides or mtb please contact me. I am on business trip for a week and would love to do local rides. That will be from Sunday 17 aug to next week Friday 23 aug.
  12. I have Formula Rx brakes and they do the exact same. But after a good wipe with any old "clean" cloth they are ok.
  13. anybody out there commuting to tableview this afternoon? i do not cycling the part next to the railway track on my own.
  14. Ok so I need to buy a new set of wheels. But what do I buy. There are so many options??? I have a GT Sensor and at the moment I have DT Swiss wheels with formula hubs. And guess what? Formula hubs are a pain in the bud. I do a fair amount of Mountain biking, single track, the technical stuff and xc. And as it is we all feel and look at things differently. Everybody has got his own opinion and swears by it. That is cool. So I would like to get some input and hopefully it would make it easier to decide what to do. And also I haven't robbed a bank so the budget will have to be taken into account. All advise is welcome. Thanks
  15. hey you are very clever. Now people won't be so jumpy when I come from behind. We all know how you "skrik" when some silent rider suddenly whooshes past you.
  16. Hey MTBikers thank you very much for all the input. I will go with hope hubs. Will try to get use to the noise. Maybe it will be something like living next to the railway line???
  17. No it is not the whole part but the "cassette body". But the problem is to get "that" part. As I understand with other you can use conversion kits or something like that. No I trust the guy (LBS) doing this for me. My question though is still: Why such a short "lifespan" on this component?
  18. Yes it is 26ers. Don't like the noise but am willing give it a try. As long as it lasts longer than a year, Thanks
  19. We have bought 2 x GT MTB'S. They come with Formula Hubs. If they go...you have to replace the whole Blinking hub. Since Formula is not interchangeable. It is now just over a year and the free wheel mech is going. We do a fare amount of MTBing some tame downhill stuff but nothing serious. We are not heavy weights either. My irritation is that I think just over a year is pretty short for that to pack up and on top of all it is pretty difficult to get hold of the parts. I will be looking to replace the wheel..new wheel sets but the question is ...what do I get. There are so many different Wheel sets with a variety of hubs available. Hope hubs seems to be quite popular but I do not like the noise. Anybody out there with some wisdom???
  20. Ok so my bike went in for a BIG service. Now it is nearly impossible to push the front derailleur shifter so that I can go into the big ring. My thumb is close to breaking off. I am not happy but what besides taking it back what is wrong?
  21. i agree with that
