  1. Was just curious to find out what people found to be the reason for their punctures on road tyres at the 947 seeing as though many mentioned this as the reason for being held back! i.e. glass, thorns, pinch flats, holes, plastic, squished bars, goo packets.... Please list tyres used as well
  2. They were after the farbars. Saw a few guys throw one their way and all they did was stick it in their pockets and carry on asking for a Chocolate!!! If they were that hungry they would have eaten it there and then! Actually got quite irritating after hearing it go on for 20km's or so . How was it that every kid along-side the road for that distance knew to say what the others 20km's back were saying to get what they wanted?
  3. I agree with you but when everyone was moving in a group up the hill at almost the same pace, everyone just stuck to their current line, you don't want to be moving around cause that is going to cause people to crash!!!
  4. I thought that the water bottles were just for the MTB race....All I received for the road race was my race pack! You had to go to the Telkom stand to get the head band thingy. ...and then after we left we saw on FB that you could get the Cycle lab socks from their stand!
  5. Yup had this happen to the missus and I up steyn city climb....not 100% sure that they were doing it the second time around but they were a fast moving charity bunch, without any chariot or disabled rider etc.! We were far right as there were people all over the place, although there was a decent space for 2 to pass abreast between my left and the next rider. All I hear is LEFT LEFT LEFT! Like no way am I going to just swerve left in a split second on a climb where most are barely keeping their balance!!! All I am doing is focusing on keeping my line and making sure the wife is ok (her foot started to cramp badly at this point). Eventually the whole lot of them took the gap and made their way through the scattered masses. So why not just do this in the first place!!! Guys and gals should think safety and consider that not everyone has the same skill level and balance, even for such a small thing like a simple pass. I thought that passing safely on a MTB on any off road terrain was a challenge, passing safely on the road with hundreds around you is nerve wrecking . I am not saying that I do not know how to move over but it can distract or scare the next person into making a move that sends an entire bunch of riders down. Anyway it was our 1st time and a last minute decision, decided to do it last Monday after doing the MTB race for the 2nd time! Had a blast and will definitely be back next year but on a road bike cause more than 5 hours on a MTB took it's toll on my joints. The goal will be for us both to make it in under 4 hours
  6. Might be better off getting in touch with your local Ryder stockist or mail them directly. Just quote the exact model number! All their products come with life time warranty too.
  7. On boobtjoob there is some additional footage from inside the shop. You can see that one bike was attached to a stand that they could not remove which they eventually just gave up on. They also carried another into the van with a stand. This is all going to lead to the chaining of bikes to some bracket on a wall in shops, so no more quick spins around the shop without the warden and his 500 keys
  8. Not a great clue but the panel van has a loose rubber seal around the top of the sliding door....guy actually tries to fix it while the other one attempts to break the door open. It is hanging down even further just before they make their getaway! You would be really stupid to use the same car to deliver/collect goods to/from the same shop but you never know... Looks to be a VW panel van. Pity the window is obscuring the area where the number plate is shown. People that drove past could have thought that this was the shops delivery vehicle and did not take notice....although it is also strange to see a lonely car in front of a shop in the early hours of the morning
  9. I am 2.03m and I really wish they made proper XXL frames across the board and not just in the out-of-reach expensive brands . Road and MTB!!! I make an XL bike with longer this and longer that look like a circus bike
  10. Was on my way to a local bike race yesterday morning with the wife...we were actually riding there, and I passed a roadie with floro kit and no lights. I obviously had mine on as I now do not believe in leaving home without them (day or night), cause I don't want to become another statistic!! Anyway as I have mentioned before, when passing under the shade of overhanging tree's and if the sun is in a motorist or other road user's eyes THAT FLORO JERSEY IS NOT GOING TO HELP!!!
  11. Did this to my wife's rims and it worked a charm! Took a few days to completely seal properly but now holds fine. My main issue was also around the valve area. Remember to only use a single revolution with gorilla tape with a slight overlap as it is very thick! Ask me how I know this....ala tyre blowing off half way round modderfontein
  12. Pull the pad and give it a good clean....something may have dropped/splashed on the pad or disk which caused the issue. ...or re-bleed the rear brakes, especially if they are still newish!
  13. Some of the sealant will fill the holes or bead area where there may be a leak when you initially seat the tyre so it is normal for some sealant to appear to "disappear" My tyres usually take a few days to properely seal off and it is usually only after a good ride that they do. So adding around 120ml is a good idea cause 60-80ml would not get you far!
  14. Also keen to hear some feedback on this question!
  15. Regarding the "XT" part.....it could be the 10 year old model so not really that special or should not be a deciding factor! I always see this in the classifieds or gumtree/olx...."full XT" oh wow it must be good then, bonus, I'll buy it . Models change over the years and with trickle down technology the Alivio and Deore etc. of today is the same or very similar to the XT of a few years back.....but this should form part of your budget brain research....
  16. Pull it out and plug it! The "thorn" is solid and may work itself out over time when the tyre conforms to the terrain. Plug is pliable and usually forced into place so it won't come out
  17. If it is just tire roll that is bothering you then just buy a decent rim and rebuild onto your current hubs and spokes! Would be much cheaper than a complete new set of wheels! 25mm ID is a nice compromise and allows you to run low pressures without the roll you currently experience. 30mm will really stiffen things up but the rim is more exposed and more prone to scratches from well, anything! All depends on your riding style, where you ride and what you want from the them You can go Stan's at +/-R1500 a rim or Rapide which are really good too at less than half the price. Then just find a decent wheel builder and away you go. You may even be able to use your original spokes too...
  18. They leak like this due to all the tiny little thorns that penetrate the surface which are then removed while riding and leave a tiny hole behind. They then leak cause the sealant is not solidifying like it should! I have used Stan's and Ryder/Fugit (same thing) and all have done what the OP has described. At the price the Stan's should do way better but lately I am not impressed....best ever was Tyre Shield which I believe is imported from Aus or possibly made here under license. It was/is friggin expensive but it sealed off holes quickly and when I pulled the tyres and left the remaining sealant to dry, it all just pealed off to leave a neat clean surface ready to be re-installed and topped up again - no washing and scrubbing required. Stan's does last longer, possibly due to it being thin lately and did not solidify in my wife's tyres for over 10 months! Instead it just turned a horrible brown colour and had a horrible off smell, but was very watery so I highly doubt it would do a good job at sealing anything. I have heard that Bat seal sealant is good but I have yet to try it. A tad more expensive than Ryder/Fugit but way cheaper than Stan's!
  19. Just received race number and start time....I must be right at the back...at least I can have a nice chilled big breakfast
  20. Apparently no sponsored beer this year...but discounted! Weather not looking great for Friday and Saturday but Sunday looks to be a scorcher!...well according to this weather app I am using anyway Will be mine and the wife's first time too....and she is not a fan of mud
  21. If memory serves me correct the shock on the Titan sport is a coil spring! If you want a better ride then look at a better shock, but then you might as well just get a better bike, cause it will be costly to upgrade just that alone...unless you find a decent second hand one with the right fit specs! Speaking from experience after doing a 2x10 to 1 x 11 swap out (entry level to high end) I can say there is definitely a huge difference in the way better components make the bike feel. General shifting and pedaling feels effortless compared to the entry level gear and this alone can transform your experience. With the bike mentioned I would rather say save up and trade your bike in for something that already has a better fork and components. With the money you are looking at spending now you could just find that bike for you with all that you need Besides that most bikes these days, bar the very low spec variants, are usually 1x and 2x. And BTW if you run out of steam then just rest and carry on a little while later! You will get fitter the more you ride and eventually be able to ride without stopping for long distances
  22. you going to be filming this? How old is the sealant? if not old then use it again. If old with bits of grass and dirt in it then chuck away and top up with fresh juice! ....although grass can help plug up holes...but I would rather chuck it
  23. yup....deflate, take off, check, clean, fix, remount and pomp and go! That bit about the porn stars was hilarious
  24. Saw quite a few roadies around linksfield off ramp area in jhb(not sure of exact road names) yesterday without lights and it was overcast! Those with lights were visible
