  1. Had same problem. The solution was twofold: 1) Make sure the front shock is setup properly - not too stiff and especially not too much rebound 2) Geax Baro Mountain 2.1 TNT for front tyre Problem was solved.
  2. haha... very good indeed. I reckon i will just take a hot water bottle to keep the tyres warm and everything else will be fine then. Seriously, there is something wrong with you people!!
  3. Should have guessed i would get answers like these!! After all this is the hub. So kenda nevegal and weirwolf are the only suggestions then. I am kind of keen on the geax saguaro for whatever reason - are these a good all around tyre, as like someone said in reality i only want one set of tyres, regardless of the conditions.
  4. Am currently riding geax mezcal 2.1 rear and geax barro mountain 2.1 at front. I fitted these late last year and found them great for summer riding, but now that its getting wet i find the mezcal very slippery over roots and also tends to clog up and bog down in the mud quickly (almost feels like it is sucking onto mud). I was thinking of changing to geax saguaro 2.2 front and back. Any thoughts or alternatives i should be considering before making this change? Maybe the new conti x-king? but not sure if this is a suitable winter tyre?
  5. Same problem as all of the above. Have not got my card yet so dont know if i will have mtb access or not. Just show the guys at the gate my computer printout of the receipt and they let you in - no hassles. Had no reply to telephonic or email queries. Shocking display of ineptitude from SAN Parks. How hard can this process be.
  6. I have the same query - how many links can you remove from a chain before you need a new longer chain?
  7. Well, will find out soon enough i guess. So now i have a new chain, with a sram 9 spd master link that has done about 40km, so i presume if it breaks again soon then it must be my shifty gear changes. Thanks for the replies
  8. Shimano XT chain i think.
  9. Would love to blame this on having too much power in the sticks, but alas, not the case. On both occassion i was not changing gears and certainly not putting down the power too hard, although the damage may have been done prior to the actual chain coming off i guess. Unlikely that the first chain broke due to incorrect fitment as i have ridden with it for about 3 months already. Second break was on a brand new chain and we had only done about 10km when it broke, so could have been bad fitment i guess. But now def not too confident about it lasting.
  10. Did the Houw Hoek tour this weekend. Broke a chain on Sat and then fitted a new chain on Sat after the ride. Sunday, broken chain again. Could this just be bad luck or is there possibly something else that could be causing the chain to break? I have only broken 1 chain in the past 4 years besides this so confused. Any ideas?
  11. What are the final distances for the Houw Hoek Tour (not called W2W) anymore. I saw about 65km day 1 and then unconfirmed distance for day 2. Can't wait for this and is also my first 2 day event. Did the Vigne this past weekend and survived and felt reasonable on Monday so reckon i should be ok. But maybe thats just wishful thinking - also only riding about 1 to 2 times per week due to multiple sprogs.
  12. Glad i did, that could have been quite rude!!
  13. No current problems at all. Just asking the question, but it seems as though there is no real reason to think about it. If i am not going to see significant improvement then no point. Thanks.
  14. Thanks, bugger! CT course is on weekend of the Houw Hoek Tour. Will have to wait for November then.
  15. Hi guys I am currently riding a 2009 anthem x1 with mavic 317 tubeless wheels. I have read quite a bit on the hub that suggests upgrading wheels makes a sizable difference to performance. If i upgrade to something else, what should i be looking at and also what sort of practical difference will i feel or notice. As a single day (30-60km rides), non-competitive rider (compete with myself as opposed to looking for a podium position!) is there any point in looking at an upgrade from what i currently have? Any advice will be greatly appreciated as always.
  16. I emailed johan some time ago about a course in CT but never got a reply!
  17. Ok. Thanks for all the replies. Seems like it's time for a refill.
  18. Hi guys How often should you be topping up or replacing your stans fluid in tubeless tyres? And then how much do you put in?
  19. Anyone know where i can find a Geax Barro Mountain TNT 2.3 ? Only seem to find them in 2.1 size which i am currently riding but want something with a bit more volume. rgds
  20. Cape Town
  21. Thanks, will investigate both options - self service and agents. Must admit i am not sure i have the confidence to do the self service option. Read some leads on this site and looks straightforward but generally these things are easy if you know how and pretty tricky if you don't. rgds
  22. My bike (anthem x1) is now 2 years old and has done a fair amount of mileage (average about 50km per week) in that time. How do i know if the shocks need a service? Everything seems to move and work more or less fine. Obviously riding only one bike all the time you and not always aware of a gradual deterioration in performance. My bike has been serviced a few times in between by cyclelab and nobody there has ever mentioned servicing the shocks? oh... and my brakes were squeaking badly on the steep downhills of the porcupine mtb in Franschoek this weekend. Is that a sign that they need to be replaced? Any help would he appreciated. rgds
  23. Mine cracked in same place after 13 months.
  24. Anyone know if the new conti range of mtb tyres, specifically the x-king, are available in SA? If so, where can you get them?
  25. I changed from crossmark all round to geax mezcal back and rocket Ron front. Crossmarks were not so good on my anthem and tended to washout a bit. Rocket Ron has great grip but not durable and sidewalls too thin. Got a blowout coming down tokai on fri evening and took a bad tumble. Promptly changed front to geax barro mountain TNT yesterday. Will let you know once tested properly. Very personal choices this tyre story.
