like baie sukkel I ride Campag, although started out with Shimano many years back. ALl I can say is i know two friends who don't really enjoy the doubel tap system as "sometimes do not get into the correct gear" for the sprints. If you are happy with your current Ultegra suggest you stay. What difference will a few grams make anyway.
Has anyone out there have or used a set. Your views and comments would be appreciated. It seems like these chainsets do not get the best reviews when doing my research. Believe its been replaced by SLK Force. Should I steer away from this carbon chainset and stick to my alloy Records?
like with everything else, it's all about brand. Why pay more for a Levi jeans than say a Lee jeans. Both denim, 100% cotton. Yeah some sometimes quality is marginally better, but price difference really comes down to branding. Just like people are prepared to pay R3000 for a Diesel jeans some folk will be prepared to pay R50K plus for a frame. Makes them feel better I suppose.
Yep, only use for racing and if you puncture, you phone a friend, hitch a hike, or wait for the sweep vehicle. You can of cource carry a spare with you. I did this many years ago but found it cumbersome. my 2008 argus tour ended on the blue route, so be careful. They give the best ride but there are drawbacks.
here an interesting fact. The first shimano ever win (overall) at the TdF was in 1999. We all know who won riding a Trek bike that year. So in the last 20 years I'd safely say that perhaps 80-90% of Colnago's in the pro ranks were fitted out with Campag.
Campy is renowned for downgrading the previous years Record to Chorus and Chorus to Centaur/Athena etc, can't keep up with the names. I see Athena has now slotted in between Centaur and Chorus so it is a damn good grp set. So my guess is,the 2010 Athena is probaly better than the 2006 Record, bar a titantium bit here and there. But as the guys have been saying, as long you stay with Campag, you will not go wrong.
