  1. Did Epic 09 on Crosmarks at back and Monorail front. Not 1 puncture and solid wheels no issues and no other wheels for me thanks. Lots of grip in the rough stuff and solid on rock gardens. Unless you going for the win and love taking a chance or two these wheels are the ones to use. PS: Remember the Monorail in front as this is way more grippy that the Crosmark just my 2 cents worth and Epic to prove it
  2. The feelings are running high. Please take this with a pinch of Salt. Even if you can ride at 33kmph it does not make you a good bunch rider. Surely it is in "A" bunch where you come and hone your "racing" skills? The problem surely was not the club nor the lady or as a matter of fact cycling or even CSA but just communication. If this was my wife and she was this worried I would expect her to do the right thing and phone me. Perhaps the same pride that drove her on the 107km stretch also got her into the A bunch to start with??? I am not pointing a finger but rather stating my point of view with VERY few facts. I would also be peed off if someone decides to just fall (excuse the punn) into the bunch then wrecks me and even worse my bike. Do some homework like Pucture Girl and join the right club and group for you.
  3. Dunno what is funnier the pics or the comments
  4. I did 180km in 5:49 in IM but no road races for some time now. Recon I should ask for a re seed. I aqm also in MM bunch???? I will pay the 150 with a smile to dodge some oaks on dikwielle. This race can be quite a scare if you TT from behind.
  5. I am currently in Knysna, What is the wheather like in JHB and Parys. Last Year was hot and dry and the year before was cold and wet. I prefer the hot and dry I must say. Anyway we will take it as it comes. See you all there.
  6. Porky, I agree with you and that is why they end up in a court of law where all aspects are investigated. Hence the fact that I am suggesting CSA takes page 5 and start reporting on cycling hot spots like bike jacking and accidents. I only ride where I will let my child ride I spend 6+ hours in SBR on weekends and some running on safe roads in the week. I have not been on the road for over 6 months now accept when racing in an event. Until we have safer roads with accountability I am on the home trainer and SBR Just my thoughts
  7. Hi All, While riding today I thought about road markings. I am thinking of using 3 colours. Green for the short loop where you leave the office turn left and then right at the T junction. 15 odd km Red for left then left at the T junction all the way around 57 km Orange for entering the south Gate and then turning right after the long hill before the T junction. 45 km loop. I am also thinking of asking for some kind of water point at Sedaven dam. I have already spoken to a printer to print some pamphlets so every cyclist can get 1 with a hot number on it. We should also have a clearly marked map with Cat 1 - 5 climbs to warn new cyclists of the remaining hills. This should also be on the pamphlets. We can work on 3hour 94.7 = 2:30 SBR Red route This way people can guestemate how long it should and could take to complete the route. Just a couple of thoughts. I am going to Knysna next week for holiday and will NOT take my bike with as I am in taper week 1 and will only be running to make up my time. While there I will put together the pamphlet design with numbers and all. O yes I thought of talking to the management at SBR that when a cyclist gets in trouble he can call the hot number and they can come and fetch him at a cost of course. Talk soon and please forward me some more suggestions. predictor2009-09-20 11:11:43
  8. Could not agree with you more. This was my exact words and thus it is up to us to create such documentation. I think there are too many people unaware of how extreme SBR can get on a Sunday afternoon with little or no water in the wind. This is some extreme riding for beginners and thus I agree with some literature to inform new cyclists of the basics. predictor2009-09-17 13:04:57
  9. I used to be a traffic officer and in my books if the driver is so good he should have known that there would just not be enough space to overtake. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> The lawful thing to do is to then slow down and give right of way until it is safe to overtake. I believe that a court of law will look at this case in all its circumstances and then make a ruling based on all the evidence. In my humble opinion I believe that we should not only enforce the law but also report on the outcome of the actual cases that makes it to court. I say CSA should reserve page 5 of the Sunday papers and report hotspots as well as accidents like these and then also the court dates and outcomes. Only when we all see the devastation repeated every Sunday will we start to realize the problem and only if motorists see the jail time dished out will they start thinking about themselves and perhaps leave cyclists alone. Just a thought. Go and sit at any well lit STOP street and see how unlawful this country has become. I say enforce the law and report the consequences of the act. Sorry to hear about the loss of another cyclist may peace come to the family soon.
  10. Hi All, <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> I am starting this post to gather some momentum and get some support to make SuikerBosRand in Randvaal a safer place to ride. Some rumors have been circulating around the closure of this cycling paradise to cyclist due to many complaints from several sources regarding cyclist?s behavior. I met with Sibusiso Thusi on Monday the 14 Sept and had a long and fruitful discussion with him regarding the potential closure of SBR to cyclists It was quite clear from the start that he felt that rules were not being adhered to and thus people were being hurt and tourists and staff was being abused. He raised several incidents and had good proof that some cyclists were behaving themselves badly. This is the perfect training ground and he agreed that not all cyclists were behaving in this fashion. I committed to him that I would go away and talk to everyone on the hub regarding and we as cyclists would come up with a set of enforceable rules that could strengthen our case to keep the reserve open to future cycling. My suggestions were that an indemnity form needed to be signed with the basic rules and regulations. I suggested that they get a HOT number that Cyclist, Motorist and hikers could use to report bad behavior. I suggested that every cyclist get a clear number and that this number that has to be worn on the bicycle at all times. A deposit would be paid for the number like in other venues and you need to provide identification when paying. This means that if you are a return offender SBR reserves the rights not to grant you access should you keep on breaking the rules. It is very clear that it is quite lawless at the moment and no one knows what the base rules are. Please do not see this as a way to discriminate against cyclist but rather a workable solution to keep SBR open to cyclist who really cares about the facility. Please add comments and please contribute if you are also keen like me to keep on cycling here. If we do not act, they will, and at this moment they only see one point of view and it is not ours. Thanks all predictor2009-09-17 11:09:39
  11. You touch my IM or Epic meddals I willl shoot to kill. Who cares about the rest
  12. Perhaps we should do what they do in the IM. Once you collect a bottle or any other piece of paper or anything you have to discard it 500m before or after the water point. I stopped in my first IM 3 years ago to just say hi to the wife when a fellow competitor handed his wife his jacket. He got a warning for this and was told to report to the penalty tent. No outside help allowed and the rules are enforced. BUT I do also understand that you have 1500 IM and 1500 volunteers in the IM and thus it is easy to control. What about we set up a forum where we can take a culprits number and then look it up afterward and then report him in such a fashion. Not sure if this would work but perhaps a start. a SHAME list of sorts. Just a thought.
  13. I agree with you. Why not standerdize!!!! I own SS chip for Mini Tri, Champion chip for CC, Winningtime for other and I just saw that I will have to fork out another R100 for some other chip in the Telkom Satelite. What are they thinking. I would like to go to 1 site and get all the info in 1 place. Eish. I recon this calls for a slow strike. I will thus do all my races and half pace
  14. I am getting towards the end of a 12 week program ending in the Crater Cruise. This week = Mon Rest, Tuesday 5 km run, Wed 5km intervals run, Thurs 5 km intervals, Friday 10km easy run, Sat rest and Rugby, Sunday 2 x Suikerbos on MTB on the tar = 6 hours ride with 2.5km climb. This is actual time spent in this week. Remember to taper for at least 2 weeks. Just a thought. O yes do your weekend rides in the sun and heat to get used to it.
  15. I rode the blockhouse the other day next to a dude with slicks. Wish I was him most of the ride as a lot was on standard dirt and tar roads. You will see tar and quite a bit of standard off roads but most certainly single track sand and the rest as well. Sticking to my Maxxis Crossmarks front at 1.8 and rear 2.2. Found this the perfect mix for Epic as well.
  16. Did it last year in blistering heat. Do some good solid training for this one and make sure to get used to some bumpy roads. GREEEEAAAAT water point at 75 then some shaking hit the tar then some single track up platklip then around the railway track with some short ups and downs then the magic bridge will take you home. Entered for the double which is the 101 and 56. see you all on the track.
  17. He breaka da law you give him the "right" hand to recovery or perhaps a 10/10 dismount. You toucha my bike I toucha your well you all get the picture. Criminals have NO place in our country. Had a real good laugh and good on you GOOSE. whateva the colour the buggers all deserves the "right" hand of the Goose.
  18. I would answer that I have done it. Who cares about the rest. If they argue I will tell them I did the IronMan 1 week later. Who cares, it is a personal race with a partner and the rest is EPIC.
  19. Who Cares. It will be tough but fair, awesome riding if you have done the reps. Did the 09 and loved it would gladly pay R25K for 2010. you will cramp, you will cry (joy) your mettle will be tested and if you ride within yourself you will complete. now go and train
