  1. Hi Nic, never heard of chain cyclery in hillcrest, are they new, and where are they???
  2. ....long shot....are these still available?
  3. Good ol powerscam, costs R11 landed and shipped to your door. Poor ol suckers that paid R495 for a color piece of rubber with a cheap peeling hologram
  4. Have been riding XT's for a year now, 100% hassle free and 100% bomb proof, weigh 88kg and have had no problems at all. Yes AC's are lighter, but not half as strong. 3 of my mates ride AC's and all have had problems with denting and deep scrathes, and one of them is a 9yr old. XT's are the way to go.
  5. The Sparks are awesome, saw the complete Spark range at Leigh's Cycle centre yesterday. Hmmm, bought my Ghost on Friday. Not to sure if thier weights are correct, would love to put them on a scale.
  6. Bring on the parallel and grey imports. My mate had a problem with his Shimano XT r/d, took it too his lbs, who charged him R1600 to replace it. If you shop online at local internet shops, they are +-R650, hmmmmmm, does not take a rocket scientist to realise we are being ripped off and guys are lining their pockets. I am in sales.....the way to make money is by reducing margings and increasing output.
  7. Just tried to look there....... "due to overwhelming response, this site is closed.......
  8. The XT's are great and very strong, extra weight is worth the reliability +-1650g. American Classics are light and not too strong 1450g Token....don't know, looks good.
  9. I am looking at buying a new 2011 Ghost Lector 7400 Carbon Full Susser, and was wondering if carbon is the way to go or not. I weigh 88kg, and mostly ride 40-45km 3-4 times a week, 2 rides are trails and races and the rest around the hood. Can you use the same bike cleaners/grease/lubes etc How does carbon compare to Alu and is the R5k extra worth it??
  10. My mate and his son have had similar problems with their AC MTB rims, son is 9yrs old, and has put nice dents in them doing 20km races. Yes, they are light....but way too soft. Have been using XT's now for 2yrs with no problems.
  11. I urgently need bearings for my Scott swingarm, they are 63800 VRS, where can I find these?? Tried all the bearing shops, they reckon it's a specialized item.
  12. I use an energy drink, training rides are in the morning on an empty stomach, besides a cup of coffee. I lost 5kg in 1 month with no side effects
  13. I see earlier in this thread that Capricorn was upgrading to Elixir CR's.....I see he is now selling them due to upgrading? Rad, have you still got the XT's....price?
  14. Scott Spark 40 is still a winner. Would rather go Merida One Twenty 1000D than a pure race bike like the 96
  15. How good are the ALEX XCR Pro Scandium Wheels 6 bolt, 32 spoke hubs Double butted spokes DT spokes Light weight Scandium rims 1509 grams a pair exlcuding skewers
  16. The Mercury 2 weighs in at 13.79kg, not a light bike, and the Specialized weighs in at 14.5kg, also a heavy weight, and specs are SLX and lower on the Mercury and even lower on the Specialized ....not a good package deal IMO, The Scott Spark 40 and Merida One Twenty are good deals.
  17. Thanks for that, will check out pricing on customs at CRC, I currently weigh in at 87kg
  18. I am currently wanted to upgrade my wheelset to something lighter. I currently run a set of Alex TD24 Tubeless setup with Karma's. Was looking at the Shimano XT, American Classics and the DT Swiss 1900's 50% trail riding and 50% 45km XC races. I know the American Classics are light....but how reliabe are the sealed bearings. How good are the XT's??
  19. If you could push that to R20k, I would seriously look at a 2010 Scott Spark 40, comes in at 12kg for the medium and has XT spec, 100mm travel. If you can't stretch that far, look at the Merida One-Twenty TFS 800 D, a little heavier at 13.5kg, but also XT spec, has 120mm travel, retails at R18k. Or look at a 2009 Giant Trance X3, SLX spec, current specials at R16k Those 3 bikes, you cannot go wrong!
  20. How would these compare to an XT wheelset, as I am in the market and these are on the short list.
  21. 2 guys were bike jacked and had everything but their clothes stollen off them there on the weekend. So ride in bigger groups and be on the look out.
  22. Howdee Andrew, wrong Craig Wright, but that Craig is also a friend of mine. I am in Winston Park. Our wives also have the same name, and my wifes maiden name is Cameron.
  23. Thanks Andrew, Where are you...in Hillcrest?
  24. The more people I speak to with XT tell me what a bad life span they are getting with the cassette, chain and chain rings. Hmm, just bought the Sram 970 cassette, hopefully will last me a little longer than the Shimano. Will in future buy Sram chains and cassettes for better life span and quality. Will keep the rest of the XT set up and SLX cranks.....for the meantime.
  25. Originally they blamed the Grabber Tyres and did a recall on them. The tyre shop down the road had around 300 Grabber tyres they had replaced. Seems as though it is a design flaw and nothing to do with the tyres.
