  3. Reminds me of this crank repair job seen at my LBS
  4. www.chainreactioncycles.com Custom built wheelset with Hope Pro 2 hubs and spokes and rims of your choice. Definitely tubeless....one of the best upgrades you could ever do! No difference in the weight of the wheels. You lose weight because you're not carrying the tubes around and you really feel the difference because it's rotational weight. Plus, say goodbye to punctures(well....almost)
  5. Majik Forest....not from the area so hard to explain how to get there?
  6. That's the ironic part about this thread - I would say there are more people that own mountain bikes AND road bikes than either one. 'fess up people - what do you own? Me? Road' date=' TT, mountain and track...[/quote'] Only 75% gay then
  7. What time does it end...? Only leaving CPT at 5pm!
  8. Next time a better climber catches me on a singletrack climb I'll be sure to prevent him from passing me like has been done to me on technical descents(even when I ask very politely 'If possible....?') Which is 100% fair. If you can't descend and you get stuck behind some lard ass plonker on the climb on his fancy DS bike, then you desrve it (happens to me lots on my hardtail!). At least you can relax behind him and admire his beautiful over-priced Chris King hubs!
  9. I guess we can play that one both ways...? Fair is fair, no...?
  10. Got it from our LBS in Hermanus. Think he paid about 4800 for the frame only. He used the parts off his Scalpel frame which he is selling.
  11. Why not just sign post it like they do overseas....ride at your own risk?
  12. Before-before... Before... After...
  13. The beauty of 2K is that if it is correctly applied it does not require any polishing. It's gives a smooth and shiny finish. I had an old BB that we inserted to protect the threads. Inserted old bolts into all rear-suspension holes. Inside of the headtube we packed with a bit of grease and just trimmed the paint that got onto the headtube-face off with a stanley knife.
  14. Did mine earlier in the year. I had stripped it completely as I'd originally intended anodizing it. When I eventually decided to paint I just washed it, wiped it off with a little bit of thinners to remove any oily residue. Painted with 2K, which uses a special primer. Came out beautifully. AFAIK it doesn't HAVE to be sanded between coats. I didn't, except to remove tiny pieces of grit/dust as I obviously didn't have a spraybooth and some dust got onto the wet paint. After about 4 months it's holding up a LOT better than the original paint. The only two marks on the frame were as a result of direct contact with rocks in tight rock gardens.
  15. I am not going to DR as it's been a few days and I only got my spies to tell me about this today. But it's ok I am not ashamed to say my technical skills are non existant. I CAN'T go over a pavement and it's closing on 2 years soon.... About scarring from standing still on a dirt road....that is my speciality and I challenge anyone to prove they are better than me. Oh and Mints......3 punctures' date=' a crash and whatever else.....I still beat you [/quote'] I wonder how far you would've gotten without my tubes, bombs, pump and skills....? BTW.....
  16. Blatant propaganda
  17. No skattie' date=' the wheels weren't only flat, they were "torn beyond use". [/quote'] Ag dankie pop....well then, if it does matter so much, I've seen a tyre get torn to shreds by over inflation. That being said, it was a very old tyre on which the rubber had deteriorated badly. It was beyond it's useful life and really should have been replaced. The bead on the tyre was torn from the casing at least a third of the way round the tyre with some tears running up into the sidewall. Point being that it is possible.
  18. They don't have to be completely deflated so I doubt the ACSA appy would've bothered anyway....they actually checked mine and I specifically left enough air in for the bead to stay seated(running Stan's conversion)
  19. A couple of years ago BA wanted to hit me 30 pounds. Check in as early as possible' date=' before there is any queue and sweet-talk the check in girl / guy. [/quote'] I paid roughly 30 pounds per flight last year travelling on two different airlines. Good luck trying to sweet talk them these days. They are very strict.
  20. My brother just took delivery of a Caffeine. He's loving it after being on a Scalpel for a few months. If you do get it, be sure to check the paint finish very well. The first one, if it wasn't the wrong size, would have been returned because of bad paint finish. The LBS said that it was becoming common with Cannondale frames.
  21. You are merely perpetuating a myth. I get into trouble for questioning statements like this but were I you when you heard this from someone' date=' I would have asked them to please explain how the tyre managed to burst. See, when a bicycle tyre is overinflated (which is effectively what happens when you take a bike to the moon) the tyre doesn't burst but the tube bursts. Further, the tube can only burst when it is outside the tyre. It cannot burst inside the tyre. How does this happen? The overinflated tube lifts the bead and pop outside like a hernia. Once outside, it finds that the atmosphere there is a bit lacking and then bursts. Immediately it retracts before the bead can subside, leaving you with the impression that the tube burst inside. Rule of thumb: if you heard a bang, it happened outside the tyre not inside. This type of questioning anything that doesn't sound kosher doesn't do much for getting invited to the next dinner party though. [/quote'] Who cares for the specifics.....the wheel was flat....end of story
  22. Regulations have changed so better to just phone or email the airline to make sure. Better to be prepared and budget for these things. A friend of mine was recently charged 150euro to take his bike on some or other international flight!
