  1. Swart Kat

    XX1

I would like to ride a bike fitted with XX1! Where can I test ride one or if anyone is willing to go for a ride and swop bikes, let me know! You will be riding a Scott Spark 910 2013 model!
  2. THE RANT What got me psst off..? Bought my second Scott MTB from Cycle Lab (first mistake) Tried to get minor part from them (second mistake) The long story; (1) Bought a Scott 29er MTB from Cycle lab. (R 43k. Other stores were selling at R41k but I had credit at CL) It was suppose to have a XT front derailleur - because I wanted the 2x10 crank changed for 3x10, the derailleur had to be change and they only had SLX in stock. No problem, probably little to no difference in performance, so will pick-up later. 1 week later - sorry no stock 2 weeks later - sorry no stock 1 month later - sorry no stock But, don't worry we will call you when we get it. 7 Months later .......nothing ! (2) Broke a spoke at Gravel Travel. C.Lab can't fix - no spokes in stock. Don't worry will call you; will take 2 days. 1 week later - I call them - sorry no stock - we will call you 2 weeks later (I call them.... 1 month later ( I call them ..... But hang on ...you sold me a R43k bike and you can't get me a R2 spoke ! ? (their attitude basically just "F^^&off and die" ) Tried the other shops, but I could not find the spokes anywhere. So, maybe the importer/agent is not doing his job ? (ever try to look them up ? or get helpful response when you phone them ?!) No, no, you are the public .. go talk to your LBS (sorry can't tell you which one likely to have parts ..you have to look them all up !!!) Tried CWC ...nope not interested, try someone else.(but that's ok, we all go to CWC for good prices, not service or maintenance) Enter Marks Cycle workshop - Hi, we checked, no supplies, but don't worry, bring in the wheel and we will have spokes made for you - Now that is a fantastic reply ! - Like always, they will make a plan to help. They have fixed so many technical things for me (like welding bits on a frame etc). I decide to check some more shops before I go this engineering route. Enter CycleFunatics - Hi, checked but sorry no stock - but we will call you back. Later in the day - Hi just to let you know, we are working on it - will call you again soon. Now that is quality service - 'keeping the customer informed' 2 Days later - ok we can help you. (wondered how they can help so quickly - they don't stock Scott - so for interest I checked with C.lab - stock arrived ?- nope) In short Cyclefunatics worked at finding a solution for the customer. THE RAVE A good cycle shop has three important contact points - a good Manager, good Staff and good Mechanics - and it looks like this shop has it all. Just hang around in this shop for a while and you see how the manager/owner directs, guides and helps his staff. Talk to a 'salesman' and immediately see how they genuinely want to help - not just sales crap bullsh*t talk like other lbs. Give these guys a try - fantastic staff, owner and service As for C.Lab - don't bother to go there - The sales staff are nice guys, but nice guys and an uninterested manager is not enough and do not deliver for me. Phew, started this thread thinking I will write two lines to get C.lab s*t service (and prices) of my chest - but now I just want to praise CycleFunatics.
  3. Sorry to those expecting sexy bum pics... this thread is to show what some of the bikes at VDS went through this past weekend. 5. When do scott launch their 2014 range?
  6. Hey folks, My old man is looking for a MTB to pedal about and has asked where he should ago and look. I haven't been on the scene for a while so I'm out of touch as to where to send him. Centurion, JHB North, Randburg, Sandton areas etc. Mr Dangle, you know I would send him to you, but I'm pretty certain he isn't going to be spending big on a Spez, as he is just looking for something to pedal on the paths at Waterfall estate. I need a dealer that isn't going to talk crap to him and sell him shite, or swap out parts on a bike etc. Depends on his budget I'm thinking Scott or Ghost at this stage, but am open to suggestions. Thanks folks.
  7. I would highly recommend Ceres Cycles to anyone anytime!! After my chain was replaced I had some issues with my gears slipping, so being in CPT I took my bike to CWC (always get emails etc from them and thought that they were probably good) I took my bike in as in just a few days it was time for the TransKaroo and my bike had to be ready for this. They recommended that they replace the cassette, which I then gave the go ahead. When the time came to collect my bike, something caught my eye. I saw on the invoice that they charged me for a 9 spd cassette. I thought that perhaps it was an error, but i quickly check the cassette and my 30 speed Scott was converted into a 27 speed. I immediately took my bike back and asked them to please correct my bike, I waited for a while and the eventually corrected it. After my first ride on the bike the gears was slipping again... Luckily Jaco from Ceres Cycles came to the rescue, he took my bike in the day before the Transkaroo and sorted it out! Those guys are magic!! and if it wasn't for them I wouldn't have done the Transkaroo at all. Thanks Jaco, you are great!!!
  8. So disappointed! I Love my Scott 29er, but in the past 12 months that I had my bike the frame cracked twice... The first time I took in my bike and it was with Scott about 2 months, and NO they will not give you a loaner, even if you have entered for races, sorry for you!!! I eventually got my bike back (after they only replaced the portion of the frame that cracked) and they told me that should the frame crack again they will replace the complete frame with a new one. Guess what? About 4 months later the frame cracked again... After taking it in and waiting for almost a month I got my bike back with only the part replaced again. I don't think I will buy another Scott again (even though I have 2 Scott road bikes at home...) Think my next bike will most probably be the Giant Anthem X0 Hopefully their service will be better...
  9. I have a aluminium scott frame with a dent on one of the rear chain stays. I can still ride with the bike, but the dent causes the stay to fan outward and thus making it very difficult to insert and remove the back wheel. Any advice on where I can take the frame to have either the dent removed of just the chain stay bent back into position - I probably need about 10mm. I live in Pretoria
  10. Hi Hubbers This is my first post here. I am looking to upgrade to a 29 dual suspension. I ride for fun and I ride quite regularly but I am on the grey side of 50 and not particularly fast. About half my distance is on tar, getting to Tokai and back, and riding the Argus once year. The rest on the mountain, jeep tracks and easier single track. I have hopes to cover more distance in the mountains, if I can find time while the body still works. I currently ride a Merida Matts hard tail with 80mm travel forks and V-brakes. It handles the tar fine, the uphills are OK but the decents are quite rough. But now I think it is time to upgrade. I have been looking around, dual suspension is a good idea for the not so young. 100mm travel would be adequate. I ride a large frame so a 29'er would suit me. I am not woried about saving a kg or two and an aluminium frame is durable. I am would like some suspension technology that saves energy on the climbs, gears that change cleanly and technology that does not need too much maintainance. Other than that I am looking for a reliable ride and a good comfortable setup. I don't have space for two bikes in the garage - this one has got to do it all. I am happy with my current 3x9 gears (I would probably be happy with 3x8). 3x10 seems to have more scope for issues, especially when the chain gets crossed from big to small sprockets. How much of a compromise are the ratios on 2x10? How much more maintenance does a 10 speed chain need? Does anybody still sell 3x9? I am happy to spend R20k to R30k. Question, what should I buy? The Specialized Epic looks realy good, but I fear that it is way beyond my abilities. It is built for speed and there may be compromises in comfort and maintainability that don't suit my needs. Besides its probably 25% more expensive than I actually need to spend and I am not sure if it is cool to ride slowly on such a quick bike. (Not that I would care, provided it actually suits my requirements). Giant Anthem's are well priced at the moment. I don't know how much maintenance the Maestro suspension will need in the future. How well does it work on the climbs, or do you still need lock-out settings on the shock? It does not have through axel attachments on the hubs - would I be missing out on something? The Scott Sparc goes with remote lock-out. It just looks a bit fiddly and there are some reports of shock reliability problems. But maybe it would work for me. Merida seems a bit behind with 29'ers, there are not so many around. Otherwise they look similar to the Scott. Or is there something out there that I have missed completely? Every time I start looking carefully around the local bike shops, there is sales pressure to close a deal on something thats on the floor. This makes me nervous and want to crawl out and ride my old bike for another season... Has anybody got comments or suggestions? Thanks
  11. Scottburgh – With a big field expected to converge on the South Coast for the long weekend, the course designers have resisted the urge to change the popular format for the Magma Security Scottburgh Mountain Bike race presented by Sappi on Saturday 15 June, and instead have make small alterations designed to enhance the current layout. 12. Which frames in full suspension have a short reach? 26" with straight steerer tube. Should be like the old Scott MC series frames. Want to replace the frame on my wifes MTB with a full suspension frame. Currently it is a Giant XTC II frame but the reach is too long for her liking. The stem is also quite short. IE: Long legs and short torso.
  13. I had my MTB serviced after Sani - I asked for a major service. Turned out to cost me R3200.00. Parts from Scott dealers alone were R1300.00 (seals & bearings). So, what did your service cost you?
  14. Looking to buy a new bike and iam in two minds at the moment. Do I go for the Epic Comp or the Scott?? The scott will be about R4000 cheaper but do I look past that?? Thanks!!
  15. On the 13th of April I fell over and broke my frame. Please see picture. I contacted insurance and raised a claim, the claim was rejected after the frame was sent for forensic testing. The tests revealed more than one crack and they reckon it is metal fatigue, and that I should contact the supplier for warrentee purposes. I bought the MTB in June 2011 and it has ONLY done 598km. The gaurentee is for three years which from date of purchase is within the time frame however it is a 2009 bike and I bought it new from a cycle dealer... What are the chances of a successful claim from the supplier? My LBS have sent it to the supplier but it has been two weeks with no answer saying it is being investigated... How do I persue this succesfully? The point is I need to get back on my bike, I really only started riding it in about March and loved it! What a bummer! Anyone had an experience like this before?
  16. Anybody know what is happening? I cycled passed Augustyn Brothers Cycles in PE and see that the name has been changed to Coimbra Cycles and they are now Scott Agents. Did Coimbra buy them out or are they just using Coimbra's name.
  17. Ok so I currently ride an alu scott road bike. Size is a virtual 56. TT is 545 ctc. Seattube is 560 ctt. I'm looking at a carbon frame with the sloping tt, but it's a medium. 534 tt and 540 Seattube. The reach on the scott feels a tad long, with a 110mm stem on there. But inseam feels good. Am I pushing my luck with the carbon size, or will it be ok with the seat post sticking out more and not cutting the fork down too much? I'm about 1,8m. Have longer legs and shorter torso, but only slightly. Please avoid comments on professional bike fit for now, have it planned once I have my frame as there isn't a perfect generic fit. Thanks!
  18. Mountain bike stage racing is big in South Africa. The good year-round weather, varied terrain and world-class events offer a perfect platform for multi-day bike races. Riders on SCOTT bikes have been prominent at the country’s two largest mountain bike stage races of 2013 – the ABSA Cape Epic in March and the Old Mutual joBerg2c in April and May. 25. I was coming down from the block house at about 2pm and 2 black men jumped out of a bush and kicked me off my bike. 1 guy choked me while the other got hold of my bike and phone. They threatened to kill me but I managed to get away after a struggle. Please guys be on the lookout for any suspicious looking guys wanting to sell a mountain bike its a Scott Scale 60 and its grey/black/white. And also be safe out there and be vigilant when cycling. Try to cycle in groups and not alone.
