  1. Looking for someone to train with as often as possible. I usually do about 20kms. Please contact me 079 992 2882
  2. Looking for a group ride to ride MTB in the Dainfern fourways Kylami Area. 2-3 rides during the week and some biggies over the weekend. Cheers Wes
  3. Picked up a nice pair of gloves on the cradle loop this morning (Sunday, 21st). Give me a shout with the description if they are yours so I can get them back to you
  4. Hi guys, I haven't been in centurion long. I come from Blormfontein where you could cycle +- 30km and end up at a nice view. I find that it's different in Centurion. I have to make an event of it and either go to Big Red Barn or Wolwespruit etc. It feels like I am confined to the city streets during the week. And as a mountain biker, that sucks. Are there any nice (and safe) mtb routes one can give a go before or after work without having to load my bike in my car? Thanks
  5. Unfortunately misplaced my Smirk mask while on the Spruit :,( Potentially somewhere by the top of the single track in Delta Park to the bottom of the jump run.
  6. Hi Hubbers, I thought I'd post our new TOKEN Cycling Club weekend ride schedule here in case anyone's looking for a group to join. We're also looking for a few ride marshals to assist with these rides. There is free club membership and kit on offer, because we know there's "nothing for nothing" :-) (You do not need to be a member to join our group rides) For more info on the club you can visit our website https://tokencycling.co.za/token-cycling-and-multisport-club/ TOKEN Cycling Club Rides leaving from Cedar Square in Fourways / Craigavon Saturday (Leaving at 07h00 until 31 August 2019) Rides will follow a roughly circular route through the Cradle of Humankind where traffic is minimal and there are generous shoulders and cycle lanes for most of the routes. There are several route options for you to choose from dependent on your mood and cycling ability. There will be a re-group point at the traffic circle at the top of the “Valverde Climb” roughly 20km into the ride, and then another at Bidon Bistro near Kloofzicht at 53km / 70km depending which route you’re following. The support vehicle, when applicable, will follow route option 1, and will at all times ride behind the last club member on the day. The route distances will vary between 78km and 107km, and 1 000 – 1 600m of climbing, and you are free to decide for your self on the day which route / group you’d like to ride with. Sunday (Leaving at 07h30 until 31 August 2019) We have only 1 official club route on a Sunday, but again due to the nature of riding in the Cradle of Humankind you will be able to shorten your ride should you prefer to do so while still being looked after by your fellow club members and the support vehicle when applicable, The Sunday route is 82km with just over 1 000m of climbing.
  7. Hi everyone, I am looking for a road cycling group in the Montana area. Currently cycling on my own but want to join a club or group to cycle more often. Any suggestions or contacts that I can use? Your assistance will be much appreciated. Thank you
  8. Looking for ladies that can join me for late afternoon rides during the week (16:30) in the Moot area Pretoria. It's been a while since I did long distances on my bike and I want to get in shape for some serious cycling on weekends. As being a woman myself (obviously) I don't find it comfortable cycling alone or with strange men as I am happily married. I don't want to join a club in my area as they don't do a lot of week rides, when they ride it's a 50km ride (I am not ready for it mentally or physically) and I have my own schedule on weekends that include Buffelsdrift, Hazeldean Valley, Wolwespruit and Rosemary Hill, which you are welcome to join (its the easy tracks though- for now). In the times we live in, I would like to first have a meet and greet in a public place, we can discuss routes, daily meeting point and meeting someone beforehand takes the awkwardness away from first rides. You can whats app me if interested, would be amazing if this can evolve into a ladies group and friendship. 0712382442 Cycling Regards, Annika
  9. Lost one red photocromic Rudy project lens during morning ride at Cradle. If found.
  10. To find motivation to ride through the cold and dark winter months, we are planning a night series at Thaba Trails. The plan is to ride an hour plus a lap, laps of about 3.5km, not overly technical, as it is night riding. Collect a bottle cap per lap that you complete. End of the night, he/she with the most caps wins. No prizes, just bragging rights, maybe a prize at the end of the series in August. R60 entry fee buys you trail access, a boerrie roll and a coffee or beer at the finish. Dates are the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month: 5 June 19 June 3 July 17 July 7 August 21 August Riding starts at 18:30. Bring your lights, something warm and your helmet and lets have some night time fun!

  13. GROWING concern about traffic congestion in Sandton has prompted the launch of a campaign aimed at encouraging the estimated 9,500 motorists who drive into South Africa’s largest decentralised office node each day to ditch their cars for bicycles. The DecongestSandton initiative could see the roll-out of at least 10 bicycle lock-and-charge stations to encourage the use of greener transport alternatives among employees in Sandton. The Green Building Council of SA (GBCSA), in partnership with electric bicycle importers Cycology and Solid Green Consulting, are behind the company. The initiative comes after the City of Johannesburg announced last year that it was investigating whether to support the safe use of bicycles in South Africa’s largest city. A pilot project for a bicycle and pedestrian programme in Soweto — linking seven schools, two clinics and railway stations — had been planned. Jarrod Lewin, advocacy stakeholder manager at the GBCSA, said on Tuesday Sandton’s traffic gridlock was set to worsen, with a number of new high-rise developments coming on stream over the next two years. New developments under construction or in the pipeline will see Sandton’s office market expand by about 20%, according to the latest figures from the South African Property Owners’ Association. The new developments would result in the estimated 100,000 commuters, using all modes of transport, entering Sandton each day increasing by about 27,000 within the next two years, Mr Lewin said. " That will lead to even further congestion and the undeniable frustration that accompanies it." The initial phase of DecongestSandton will reach out to corporate Sandton to become part of a network of bicycle stations that will allow employees to cycle within the central business district (CBD). "We ultimately envisage bicycle commuting becoming as prevalent, if not a preferred, mode of transport within the Sandton CBD ," Mr Lewin said. "Our dream is for Sandton commuters not only to cycle to the office, but also between offices for meetings, for lunches, for shopping and for getting to and from the Gautrain station." Further, Mr Lewin said the campaign hoped to get motorists residing some distance from the Sandton CBD to park their vehicles at public transport interchanges near their homes. They would then travel into the area by public transport and use either bicycles or electric cycles to travel within the CBD. Solid Green Consulting director Warren Gray said a big challenge would be to dispel the notion that urban bicycle-commuting was impractical and potentially dangerous. "At the moment, many Sandton motorists feel unsafe and as such are button-holed into driving, whether it is the best option or not." A small drop in the number of cars could result in a significant reduction in gridlock. "In many other global cities … the uptake of cycling by a small number of former motorists quickly creates a tipping point, with others more likely to follow suit," Mr Gray said. Cycology CEO Vincent Truter said it was encouraging that local government was trying to promote a cycle-friendly Johannesburg. The construction of cycle lanes in Orlando, Soweto, and in the area between the University of Johannesburg and the University of the Witwatersrand was already under way. http://www.bdlive.co.za/national/2014/05/21/initiative-launched-to-make-sandton-bicycle-friendly
  14. Having attended the Cyclists Indaba (good discussion on the Hub - not so good at the Indaba) and a few other forums/meetings/planning sessions etc... I'm interested to find out what you would like at one of these events? I'm not talking demands or laws passed, or more officials giving 45min PPT presentations on what NMT is, and why cycling is good for the environment...etc There is clearly a gap between the officials and politicians, and then the cyclists and activism groups. How do you propose we bridge this gap?
