Great Surgeon needed

Hi Hubbers,

I need some info and advise from my fellow cycling community members.

I am looking for a great competent surgeon who is familiar with cycling injuries and operating procedures. I am pretoria based and would like to make use of some one in PTA or Centurion.

Any suggestions?

Dan du Plessis if u have a knee problem. Otherwise check to see who the Blue Bulls usually consult... then tend to use the best surgeons in the area.

if it's knee related, Dr Spike Erasmus down here at the Stellenbosch Mediclinic/ Knee Clinic is of the best in the world. I was referred to him by Jake White era Bok team doctor (soz for what seems like name dropping, but since someone mentioned another rugby team, thought i might as well reveal the man's pedigree, just for some peace of mind).

He might be able to refer to you someone closer to home.

Come on! You serious??? A surgeon who is familiar with operating procedures????

Please bru, we are not in the dark ages.

Go to the doctor who your GP sends you to. Yes, make sure he/she is a specialist in the field of your injury.

And believe me the Bulls don't always use the best, I know!

Bru, operating procedures specifically relating to cycling injuries...

I have been to two othropedic sergeons before whoi was refferd to. I was not happy with them and i dont wish to go back to any of the two.

I just think that someone who perhaps is a cyclist or specializes in sports injuries, and a surgeon would perhaps better understand those kinds of injuries and would better know how to sort them out...

Ok, here are some specifics...

I broke my clavical bone (collar bone) three years ago. i broke it in such a way that they had to operate on it an insert a plate onto the bone to get it back together and to heal.

I know the plate is suppose to come out after a year but i have been putting it off and feel its time to take it out.

Like i said, i dont wish to go back to any of the two other surgeons and would feel more comfortable with someone who perhaps specilizes in Cycling / Sport injuries...

If you are after a great knee surgeon, no one better than Daan du Plessis at Little Company of Mary in Groenkloof. He has done wonders for my knee's from my rugby injuries to cycling injuries

Being a Blue Bull supporter for the past 39 years might have a little to do with it. Plus given that Victor, Bakkies & Fourie are likely to be missing next year may put them in the re-build faze???????

But i digress... yes Daan has done my knees and is extremely good.

Not such a ridiculous question to ask as what you may think – lots of wannabee kwaks out there who are only in it for the money and status ... not to ensure you come off that slaughter table in the best possible condition ...

We might not be in the dark ages anymore, however - I have a very close friend in the medical industry & the stories they tell are horrific !!!

So yes, the best thing you can do is find the best possible specialist!

My wife is a sports fisio, and she reckons Dr. Thys de Beer (LCM) or Dr. Theo Rosch (Jacaranda) IF it is only for shoulders!

Dan Dup is knees only...Well he specialises in knees...:-)
