Shimano XT all mountain wheelset

I have a Rocky Mountain Slayer frame that the manufacturer specifies a 135Xø10mm through axle for on the rear. I would like to fit a Shimano XT all mountain rear axle to the bike, but the XT all mountain wheelset comes as standard with the normal ø9mm QR rear hub. Does any one know of a conversion kit to change the rear hub to a 135 X ø10 through axle or even a bolt in axle?

I bought a XT wheelset with 20mm axle a while back . I am sure you will be able to get other combinations .

Don't get the XT AM wheels...

 

I may be wrong, but because the XT hubs are C&C not sealed bearings, you probably can't convert... so go for some custom built CRC wheels with Hope Pro II's

As for rims... I'm guessing you want some AM types... so I would recommend the Sun Ringle MTX 29 Welded Rims.

 

But yeah... if you've already bought the XT AM wheelset... then hopefully there is a conversion option?!

A Hope Pro II custom wheelset will cost the following

 

Front - R1140

- Hope Pro II 20mm (various colours)

- Sun Ringle MTX 29 Welded (Black or White)

- DT Swiss Competition DB Black (upgrade from standard spoke option)

 

Rear - R1943

- Hope Pro II 10mm Bolt-up (various colours)

- Sun Ringle MTX 29 Welded (Black or White)

- DT Swiss Competition DB Black (upgrade from standard spoke option)

 

Total - R3083 (Free Shipping, Excl. VAT)

 

The XT AM set on CRC is R2700... but if you're not buying anything else you will have to pay shipping which is R280. But besides that... I would recommend paying the extra R380 odd rand for the Hope hubs. I've had both XT and Hope and I love my Hope hubs. My XT rear hub seized (granted it was probably due to negligence, but I'm not the only person that this has happened to... and sealed bearings are the way to go).

Whenever I have tried to order Hope custom builds from CRC they have never had stock of the Hubs or rims that I wanted. Has this improved then?

Yeah... I had a similar problem when building my DH wheel set. I requested stock notification and as soon as I got the email, I bought. The next day the hubs were sold out again.

 

But there seems to have been an improvement. Maybe the Hope factory has increased productivity to keep up with the demand?!

Patches is right. XT soak up mud and dirt like a white sheet. Hope II's are the best value for money while Chris Kings hubs are the best hubs for silly money.
