I wonder about the bike shop in Slaapstad that dealt with my bike recently. I have non-UST Crossmarks on Giant 29 inch non-UST wheels that came on the bike. I had no problem with seating the rims after doing a Bat-Seal conversion. I leant it to someone to attempt the Grape Escape. Apparently in transit down to the Cape the real tyre someone came off. Jon took it to a shop and they told him it was the wrong size, and instead sold him a Specialized Fast Trak tyre.

What could the bike shop possibly have meant by it being the wrong size?

Could mean thet the tire is too wide or narrow for that rim.

e.g. Recommended Tire Size 26 x 1.50-2.25 26 x 1.50-2.25

Usually these guys dont know what they talking about. Give them a spanner and they will tell you how to build a rocket ship.

These are the tyres that the bike came specced with. I'd ridden it for more than a month after the conversion with no hassles.

Or maybe they meant it was going to be too narrow for the sand at Grape Escape???

Then shouldn't they suggest changing the front too?

I reckon they were just too lazy to get the tyre to reseat right.

A couple of questions, what is a batseal conversion? You lent the bike to a mate to do the grape escape? How did the tire just"come off"during transit?

Bat-Seal is a locally produced conversion kit. Yup, not sure about this question. Don't know. He unboxed it and the tyre was off the rim.
