Interested to know what your riding weight is and what pressure you pump your Maxxis L(UST)2.1 tyres to for Cape Epic conditions?

Been using Tubeless ready Rocket Rons for many moons and pumping them to +/- 28 - 30 psi (1.9 - 2.0 bar)Riding weight = +/- 82 kg.

I've just installed Monorail UST's and have not had much chance to ride outdoors with them, found them to be a lot harder at the same pressure (heavier construction compared to RR's).

Swissvan, I think you will be spot on with the 2.8bar on the monorail @ about 80kg.

You going monorail at the back as well? Or crossmark?

Maybe in Tokai fores, lots of loose gravel, about 2.3, but once in ceres area, lots of rocks , not that much sand around that world

Can't comment on Epic conditions, but for my 75kg in XC type sand, gravel, hardpack with odd grass & rocks, I would run my UST monorails at 2 to 2.1 bar, and never considered that I needed more air than that.

It looks like he is 7kgs heavier than you

will it make a diff?

I also think a big role will be on how attacking do you going to ride on the rocky areas, if you are a kammakazi downhill guy, you going to hit big rocks at hight speed, so your weight will be a factor

or is my thinking incorrect?

How much difference are you noticing(pressure wise) with such smalll increments? I know my pump isn't the most accurate, so I base my tyre pressure on what feels right.

I rode yesterday (no rain  ) for the first time with the monorails with 25 psi front and 28 psi rear.

Felt ok but did not ride a lot of sand as it was mostly mud  on loose rocky stuff it felt like I could maybe still go a little lower, but to be honest need more riding time to decide.

If everything is directly proportional to ground pressure (huge simplification), if he ups my pressures by the proportional weight difference i.e. 7 kg / (my weight + bike weight or 75 + 15) = 8 % he should get the same ride quality. Also assumes his bike in Epic trim weighs as much as mine in normal trim at 15kg.

I think the Monorails need 1.8bar to reliably stay fixed to the rim ??

On tar I felt quite a big difference between 28/30 and 25/28, did not try 28/30 offroad as it already felt to hard.

swiss, I think thats the pressure. I did 4 already, must admit, I'm not afast decender, so bit more caurtios, but I alway go 2.8 on both,

Dont do a mistake an dthink the TT in woester should be faster, its a tough TT and rough terrain, keep the tyre pressure as what you use the day before, you have a littl erun over the golf course and some tar section, but not long enough to go harder on the pressure

and one tip, stay away from the big blade

trust me, your knees is going to thank you when everyone around you is looking like war sivivours

Thanks pops will think of this whenever the knees start complaining

We rode about 2.5 at the back and 2.3 in the front with our Monorails. Rider weight at 75kg. We rode the same pressure irrespective of the terrain (in 2009) The Tulbagh/Ceres areas might be evem more rocky, not sure wherer lower or higher will be better.

2.8 seems a tad high to me.
