i have a problem tho for some reason i suck at hills, i cannot go fast uphills no matter what i do think my technique is wrong i get seriously tired going up hills and i feel like im gonna die but the i have huge energy when at the top also my legs dont hurt when climbing??

please can i have some serious answers along with all the mockery.

thanks.

i cannot go uphills in my granny gear i spin like a mad thing and dont move anywhere! it might have something to do with the fact that im 120kgs and built for rugby, infact the whole issue might be that.

I hear you mix. I am in a similar situation. You will have to practise riding hills. I am and there is a slight difference, hopefully soon I will be able to sprint uphill

i also suck at hills, but I started to get better when I started doing some hill training, well, when ever I ride the spruit I just ride my bike from my house and I found two a nice long hills that seem to go on forever, I also tend to turn around when I get to the top of these hills and ride up them again, that seemend to help me alot

good luck

Yeah, I hate climbing with a passion. In my mind endurance fitness is completely seperated from climbing fitness. Force yourself to do hills. A lot of them. Start small, short but steep hills. Slog them out in granny ring forcing yourself to maintain a cadence from start to end of the hill. repeat. repeat. in a few weeks you will notice you start doing them much faster, in bigger gears and a little less completely dead at the top :)

i am hitting alot more hills and also find myself riding up hills and then down and back up just to tyr and get there. we cycle on sundays from randburg just off Malibongwe all the way to an estate on the other site of lanseria, this is helping alot with my climbing but wanted to know if there is anything else i could do??

i know there is no "quick fix" as they say on the cover of the bicycling mag but im sure there are tips?? anything i can do at gym on a stationary "bike"

Naaa, not built for rugby. Just genetically engineered for downhills :P

I'm a similar weight to you - I find that on 'gentle' uphills, I'm fine, and can keep us with, or go faster than, others. But when the hill gets steeper, I find the 'lighter boys' ride away from me.

I think for us with big bones, there is a point where the extra mass has a dramatic effect, and the power-to-weight equasion is found wanting!

No there are no Quick fix. But:

you are in luck it is almost winter, less races and more time to spend in the gym. hit the weights section hard once a week, doing Squads, Leg press, Lunges and calve raises.

Once you are able to Squad your own weight you wont have a problem with the hills

PS. don't do weights 2 Weeks before a big race.

PSS. when your legs are so sore you cant stand up from the toilet seat. Don't go ride with you buddies. take it slow on your own.
