Yip, crc.

Dunno about the DT rims...due to having no experience with them. You can always read reviews on www.mtbr.com regarding any part/bike/wheel etc.

Can anyone else here help?

I have been riding my American Classics for a year now with no problems, I have not had to have them straightened at all. Very light and not at a bad price either.

They will be strong enough for what you describe. At first, the bike put me off the wheels you want to use on them but it seems as if you're not really using the bike as it was intended and therefore poofter wheels will be fine.

They are strong enough but not very durable. Expect to replace rims and bearings as your mileage increases.

The anectode of someone hitting a rock and the wheels surviving is just a tale of luck and adequate tyre pressure. If the tyres bottom out, you end up with a bent rim. Bottoming out is just a function of speed, rock shape and tyre pressure.

How the rim behaves on bottoming out, is dependent on how much meat it has. An AC wheel has no room to maneuvre. It is light and thereofore thin.

If you want to use the bike for what it is intended, go for a sturdy hub such as PRO II, a heavy rim such as Loaded USA (in matching hub colour of course)and standard double butted spokes.

But, screw all the advice and go ride you bike with whatever wheels you have. Enjoy the ride and have a beer afterwards.

Ive hit a brick before with my road american classics, went under front and back wheel.

Not a light boy and they took it fine.

I was expecting them to break, but hey, I have been pleasantly surprised with how much mileage I have been able to do on them.

Bearings do go quicker though because they are smaller, but otherwise I am happy with them.

i was also very concern when buying the AC 26inch tubeless wheels.

The website showed weight limit of 85kg.

I emailed the guys at AC because i am +- 82kg and close/over limit after a few braai's.

They responded and and told me the weight limit is 114kg. I then forward him the link on there website showing 85kg. He did not respond and after a week i saw them changing this. This happened about 6 months ago. 2010 chart to 2011 chart

So far i dont have a single days problems. I had a major crash where a bended the rotor but the wheel was still perfect. I dont train with them so hopefully the hubs will last a while...
