Hi Hubbers...

I picked my wheel up today from my LBS, for the 4th time in 2 months. Yep i've been snapping spokes quite often now.

I'm riding DT Swiss 445D rims, that originally come off the 2010 Scott Spark.

I've got quite an aggressive riding style, but i do strictly XC.

My question is, I ride quite often, i'm not heavy, the wheels are about just under 2 years old. Will this keep on happening? Also i am insured with Outsurance, what is the process on claiming from them? it's costed me around R400 to date replacing spokes/trueing/stans etc.

look at the following:

1. Excess vs cost of claim? - cause are you claiming for a new wheelset or just to have the spokes replaced?

2. If claim is processesd, premium increase at annual rerate stage?

3. As yourself the question, is this happening as a result of their covered perils ( i think it's fire, theft, accidental, impact) or is it just wear and tear?

If it's just wear and tear....like most of us it will happen at some stage, my shimano wheels need to be straightend and spokes replaced on a regular basis.

This is my 5c worth.

Thats the thing i think its more wear and tear than anything else, its just abit frustrating going to have them replaced paying on average R85.

I wouldn't mind claiming for a new set of wheels, but that's what i wanted to know, i don't think i'm paying alot currently for insurance.

My fear is that my premiums will sky rocket.

Only other thing i could think of in saving abit of cash, is buying a set of spokes CWC has for R450, and everytime they go replace my self and then just get the wheels trued and balanced.

But i might still be spending more as it is around R50 to true the wheel and also bare in mind its will cost about R1k to rebuild front and rear wheels.

it's a choice you gonna have to make,

I see this alot like having a car, you don't claim for the altinator or fuel pump packing up. But if you had an accident, then that's worth the claim.

Maybe save and buy a gift to yourself from yourself.

Thats how i get it around my wife...

Hope this helps

I wanted to hear what other fellow hubbers have done, if there were any who experienced the same problem.

I will ride it out if all else fails and i snap another then i will call 08 600 70 000

Maybe get the wheels properly rebuilt with new spokes and properly stress-relieved etc. The spokes may be breaking due to a poor wheel build.

Give Johan Bornman here on the the Hub a shout. He can point you in the direction of someone in CT who can do good wheel builds (as a point for comparison, JB guarantees his wheel builds against any spoke breakage).
