Van Gaalens over Breedts Nek and back

A group of us are leaving van Gaalens at 6h30 on Sunday 10 April and riding to Breedts Nek shebeen and back.

 

Distance is about 110kms with about 1100m of ascent. Should take about 7hrs

 

We will be in mixture of Ride and Birdlife kit.

I met some guys on the top of Bredtsnek this morning. They rode from a filling station in ten vicinity. I was scouting it on my Motorcycle. Looks like a lovely ride. Hope you guys enjoyed it. I will have to try it next week.

Did the route on Sat....starting out at VG via district roads to the top of the nek and back. Two things, breedts is looking awesome obviously been scraped. I haven't had such a lekker breedts ride in a long time, we came back via the river singletrack at VG thinking we going to have a but of "pudding" as a reward for our long day in the saddle. Quite dissapointed to be honest, knowing what this place rides like when it's fixed. The trail is overgrown, bridges are washed away with no means of crossing the river other than wading it, bush tunnels are so muddy and unrideable you have to walk them almost knee deep in mud.

 

Spoke to the guys at the cheese shop afterwards and apparently they are not fixing it up until mid winter when all the rains die down...I wont be riding there until then.
