  1. I don't buy "brands" because I don't believe in the hype......sometimes however there is substance to the hype. I got given an Assos bib as a present because I am too cheap to buy one myself and have become a convert. I bought another 2 to facilitate washing on the JoBerg2C. I cannot wear other bibs anymore. Assos has changed my comfort on a bike forever.
  2. Have only had a smile on my face since I dumped the Elixir cr's and fitted XT's. Haven't heard anything bad about Formulas either. Seems to me that there are numerous brake sets that do the job and a bunch of personal preferences but only one to avoid.....
  3. BMW RI 200GS 2007 Model. 96000km mainly commuting around jozi. Love the ability to beat the traffic.
  4. I have found in the past when battling to seat new tyres that it is important to create the highest possible flow rate for air into the valve. Normally just removing the core is sufficient but in some cases I have even had to remove the valve clamp from the compressor line and just slip the hose over the valve stem. Then the tyres popped into place very easily.
  5. Was this ever taken any further or did it all just end un a huge amout of " smashing lagers"?
  6. Gaint ......should be very Cheap .....knock off of Giant? Chinese perhaps?? I have a 2011 Giant Anthem 29er . Wouldn't change it for anything. Better value is hard to find!!
  7. I carry all repair kit except an extra tube(taped to frame) in a small dry bag which I keep in my cycling shirt pocket. I found that 2 water bottles on the bike and this bag were all I needed on the JoBerg2C last year. Many water points were provided so extra food was unnecessary. Bag contains tyre levers, 2x bombs,Bomb inflation adapter, valve converter, multi-tool, tubeless plugs and insertion tool, spare valve core(lose one once and you wont ask why) , cash , master links, very small lube bottle, See pic of small dry bag similar to what I use. Easy to remove from shirt pocket otherwise you spend a lot of time fiddling with stuff in your rear shirt pockets .
  8. If you were out on the trail and did not have rope but had a tube, would it work to stretch the tube over the outside of the tyre and then bomb it? Just thinking that this might force the bead of the tyre into better contact with the rim.........?
  9. Wondering if the process then 4x4 boys use with lighter fluid and a match might not do the trick. I am not exactly a pyrotechnic genius and do not need to burn my house down to try the experiment , but there must be someone out there with a love for living dangerously..........
  10. Thanks Capediver for the guided tour this morning. Lovely ride and sooo jealous of you guys and your access to such a special place ro ride
  11. Ok. Found on google maps. 7:30. Wife will drop me off in white Hilux
  12. Great. Where should I meet you?
  13. Hi guys. Im down from Joburg and looking to ride at Tokai tomorrow morning . Anyone who knows the area want to show me the routes. Medium fitness level so racing snakes will be too strong or need to be patient
  14. I was priveleged to meet him and Cherise at their new store in Ballito and a group of about 20 of us did a ride with them at Holla trails. What a lovely young couple with the world at their feet. All detroyed in an instant. My heart goes out go Cherise and their family. RIP Burry. You will be missed.
  15. I will watch!
  16. A long shot but check your deraillear hanger. On my Anthem we tried everything related to the bb creak only to be embarrased by finding the creak originated in the rear derailleur and the sound transferred in the frame to sound like it came from bb area. If not then just check all bolts are tight
  17. What is the address of the new Concept Cyclery store in Ballito. Must have a look. I think I am going to join the ride on Tuesday. They will probably lose me quite early on. Still sounds like fun!
  18. I just got to Ballito yesterday. Havent been on my bike for a week and experiencing huge withdrawal symptoms. Want to ride at Holla tomorrow am. Ridden there once before last year with my son and dont want to ride it alone. Anyone keen. Btw not that strong yet. Just ridden W2Whales and training for Joberg2C but no racing snake. That sign gave me a good laugh until I saw what lay beyond! The entire event was well organised but it is difficult to describe to my fellow upcountry mtb brethren the actual magnificence of the singketrack. Many months in preparation and definitely very impressive. Well done to the organisers on an excellent event! Im' jealous of the guys riding the race this coming weekend. . .
  22. This is the interweb. International. Give us a hint. In which country, province, town did u find it. I am sure that many have been lost and you need to be specific or you could be inundated. . . . .Like a game show. . . . Where is the edge?
  23. I like the values. We are all part of the solution.
  24. Glad u have solved your problem. I have had similar challenges with tubeless conversions and my top tips are 1) ALWAYS pre inflate without valve cores before adding sealant unless you enjoy cleaning sealant off everything 2) Bontrager rim strips are the easiest of all conversion packages as they convert your rim to tubeless - no debate- except for the weight penalty 3) Any home compressor can inflate a tyre first time if you adjust the pressure on the outflow side of the compressor's pressure guage. No matter how much pressure is in the tank it has no effect unless you release it. On my compressor there are 2 guages. The one closest to the tank shows tank pressure and is preset for safety in the factory. The one on the right is for you to set the delivery pressure you want. I set mine to 5 bar for seating tyres. Once seated I deflate and add sealant , then insert valve core and inflate to desired pressure. 4) ALWAYS use soapy water to seat tyres when using Bontrager strips. Tyres seat so tight you will lose your sense of humour and think you are fitting a 650b tyre to a 29 inch wheel. Soapy water helps the tyre glide over the rim edge. In most cases you can inflate tyres with a hand pump using Bontrager strips Hope this helps
  25. Hi all W2Wers. My teammate and I are leaving for the W2W on Thursday 1 Nov early from Johannesburg. We will be sleeping in the tents on the Thursday evening as well as the Sunday after the race and driving back on Monday 5 Nov. Anyone interested can call me and we can come to an arrangement on sharing of fuel cost. Pierre 079-498-8693
