What was Douglas Ryder thinking!? <?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Launching his new super duper ladies when they are all (bar Chrissie Viljoen)  still under contract.

AND the girls being so gullible, even though they were warned not to by their existing sponsors, just too happy to hop on stage for a bit of press and pressure from Douglas.

Now half of them might not be able to race tomorrow.

Great start <?:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Douglas!!!

The question once again arrises - does the team owner /manager care about the riders - or just the sponsor who is filling his backpocket

I personally think anybody who has anything negative to say about the MTN team has got some serious grape issues!! The sour type!! Well done to them on a well organised team introduction yesterday.

No one was forced to go on stage, Cherise & Jay attended the launch but didn't go up on stage because they chose not to in honor of their current sponsors!

This baffles me:

You all bitch and moan that womens cycling is in ka, there are no proper teams in SA and now Douglas (and Im not defending anyone here) does big work and lands a huge sponsor and now you all bitch about it?

Yes they still under contract but I can tell you a sh*t load of sports that announce their signings before the end of the season and contracts are up. Read the news now and go on other websites and you will see and I clearly remember Barloworld saying that Impey is signed for 08 and everyone here said its awsome, well done and not that Claudio Corti is a asshole for announcing it. So what the diffs here??? No wonder this sport is in the shape its in.

The 94,7 is a huge event with huge coverage so what better a place to announce it???

Colnel  I am with you on this one this is the last race of the year and so what if anybody has signed for another team i still think that the SA ladies have enough integrity to support the current teams and listen to team orders for the day.

At long last SA Ladies Cycling is moving in a direction, something Ronel has been bitching and moaning and ranting and raving to happen.  Now some stupid GIT wants to throw a contract in the argument to say that whoever is contracted to ride with whoever, if the lady was so valuable why did they not sign her for 2008.   But the more the sponsor can get out with the least capitol outlay is the best for the sponsor, whatever the racer does has nothing to do with them, just as long as she gives them exposure.

Bollocks to all them

HATS OF TO MTN

no! you understand it incorrect..no one is pissed of because they annouced the new signings..they are pissed of because the riders are still under other contract until the end of the year and mtn decided to launch the team..so for instance cherise is still riding for konica and here she is at the launch for mtn..which is unproffesional..also not her fault... ,but although she didn't go on stage I think its propbably still a breach in contract..and thats why John is pissed off..because he worries more about his sponsers than his riders!...he wants to squeese as much of the exposure for his sponsor as he can get..

thats the reason why team launches in europe only happen in january/february

Far as I could see, the girls were all in civvies, not wearing new kit and thus not in breach of their current contract. It was merely an announcement of what was happening next year. Get off the soap box

You right he does want to squeeze as much exposure for his teama nd well done to him. I dont see any problem with what he did as non of them were in MTN gear they were in civvies.

Well done and thats maybe why he has the financial support he does.
