Hi guys,

I need to get a new front tyre (UST). Looking at getting the Maxxis Crossmark but the question is 2.1 or 2.25? I'm going to be running a 1.95 at the back.

Which do you recommend - 2.1 or 2.25 or does it actually make a difference?

I'm doing more XC stuff - long rides (60km+) and have entered my first stage race in June

Thanks for the advice.

I was running a Maxxis Ignitor 2.1 on the front but was not too happy. Changed to a Schwalbe Rocket Ron 2.25 and have found a big improvement. I run a Maxxis Crossmark 2.1 on the back and I find the combo really works well.

I would say the 2,1 is the way to go. If you are going to be doing some wet weather MTBing then rather go with a Kenda Nevergal. As it is the Sh!tz in the wet. Last thing you want is the front tire slipping out on you. The Conti mountain king is also a good option here, but the 2.1 is rather narrow.

I also have a question, does everybody buy about 6 different tyres and changes them the night before predicting on how the ride will be the following morning

Or are you guys deciding on tyres as general use?

The other thing, if you chopping and changing all the time, dont you find it a mission with tubeless?

All I can say is stay away from Monorail in mud, the front is super happy to wash out, I speak from recent experience

Dunno... I have one set of WTB Velocicraptors or some WTB crap, and that's what I ride in all conditions. Makes life simple for me.

I go for a general purpose tyre, unless very muddy.

Agree on the Monorail in the front, *** tyre to run in the front...good for the back.

Went from Conti mountain kings 2.1's in the front, thinking they were the best...Now find a Racing Ralph 2.25 awesome on the front.

Still prefer a 2.1 at the back

Thanks, so very much a preference issue I see. Also looking at a general purpose tyre.

I'm going to try the Crossmark in 2.25 and see from there. I've got an Ignitor 1.95 on the back.

Guess it's a learning curve to see what works best...

Thanks for all the advice.
