GP's not all bad. It is definitely more awake than Slaapstad.....

Not if the oke's going to live way down south (Alberton - Vaal). That area is seriously slow paced :P .

Without a doubt, it will be a big culture shock to move there from CT, especially for youngsters.

So while it seems that everyone is always asking about moving to CT, i've decided to make the move northwards to JHB. Ill be working around the Meyerton area and was wondering if anyone has some input as to which suburbs will be ok to rent a place in for the first year or so.

I was considering living in either alberton / glenvista. Or perhaps living more south in Vanderbijlpark as i also enjoy the odd paddle on the river. Does anyone know what Emfuleni golf estate is like? And most importantly, are there any trails around????

Thanks guys.

Agree, rent in Alberton area because it's more central. Then over time, travel around/cycle all over, to get a proper idea of where you actually want to sink your roots.

True ! Windsurfing there does not refer to activivty on the water ,its is different sport altogether !

At some of the Larnie Jols you are frisked for weapons such as knives or guns ,if they cant find any on you they'll give you one  !!

Pap gooi also does not refer to any activivty related to breakfast , but if you get the hang of it its quite rewarding , when you pull the first Geele !

Dropped handlebars, ultraviolet floarecent lights , whale tales and mags are all vocab you can use when in a tight corner at a Bar .

that's what I know dry.gif !

I love the vaal for various reasons, here are some that comes to mind

TV take-away in V-town - best russian and slap chips you will ever have

Maccauvlei golf course - top 50 ranked course in the country and you can play it non-affiliated for 150 buckeroos

Flyfishing for yellowfish on the vaal river - screw the papgooi flies are the way to go

La Oma slaghuis in bedworthpark - Best meat north of the vaal. They make a boerie with half pap...half meat. Boom

Henley market - great day out, wine and cheese under big trees.

People are generally salt of the earth and dont think too much of themselves. Not uncommon for people to stop and offer help if you have a flat tyre. Good luck with the move Til, I would stay out of the big city move closer to the vaal...but that is just me.

I would move to henley tomorrow if i could, but work in centurion...

Cool site, firstly, new to it today. Good to see so much traffic.

Despite it's many issues, Gauteng has an amazing energy that makes it very unique, not better just different. I'm in JHB South and can definitely recommend Henley-on-Klip, Alberton etc, but does depend on what you're looking for and your mode of life.

Reitvlei Farm in Alberton has some really good trails as mentioned above.

Kensington is good, close-ish to Alberton, but more central if you work in JHB, but you're going to pay a premium...
