Hi everyone. Hopefully somebody can help. I've come into possession of an old Le Jeune with Shimano 600 parts (classic!) and I'm busy taking most of the parts off, learning, cleaning and just having fun.

Yesterday I took off the chain and cassette and I was wondering if you can help from the following pictures if you can see whether the sprockets are worn? On the three smallest sprockets there seems to be a kind of shark fin which I thought was wear and tear, but on closer inspection it looks like is should be there. Were they made like this? Also, I've posted a picture of the chain which I assume is too rusted to use. Can I just try to get another 7-speed chain and hopefully it will be alright on the old cassette?

Thanks for the help

It's the HG (hyper glide) design.

Yes I saw hyper glide on the one sprocket. I'll do some more research on the web on that design. Otherwise the teeth still looks ok, or what do you think?

They look fine. The HG design is those ramps and oddly shaped teeth to aid shifting under load.
