Always best to save weight on the rim than the centre of the wheel for better acceleration, but hey if they are shimano xt or xtr hubs I would keep the rim and get some hope pro 2's so you won't spent your life always servicing the shimano hub. Man those things can leak. May be one day they will come with sealed bearings and decent seals :-)

To rehash JB's post.

Why do you want to upgrade?

Is there something wrong with the wheels or do you just have an itch you want to scratch?

I have XT/819 wheels, but needed to scratch a Hope/355 itch. Even went with red nipples!

Each time you rebuilt the wheel, its highly likely that you would need new spokes because of different hub measurement or rim ERD's. @ R15.00 for each spoke, that gets pricey!

With Mavic's spoke count, you might not even be able to do transplants.

You may as well get a complete wheelset and be done with it.

Hope Pro II Evo hubs

DT Swiss Comp or Revo spokes

Brass nipples

ZTR Crest rims (or Arch or Alpine or ?)

A good wheel builder to put that all together in the manner it deserves.

yea splat ... was more a curiousity factor than anything else. The wheelset is a tubelss conversion .... I was wondering about possibly going to a true tubeless rim, hence the question. But Mr Crow has managed to convince me to stay as it .. no real need to upgrade.
