Just thought I'd share the following with you guys. The highlighted riders below were all using the LOOK Quartz pedals during this years Cape Epic.

Must say Mr LOOK changed to the look MTB pedals 3 months ago and since then I have not pulled my foot out once. I was ryd-ing another brand previous to that and pulled my foot out atleast twice on every ride. Only mistake I made was to buy the white ones, (Come on they were on special) but they did look cool in the box. Now I have a set of off white creame looking almost brown pedals. Will buy black or grey next time round.

thanks

Thanks for the feedback Justin! I do agree....the White pedals are great for posing the day when you buy them...but they do get dirty pretty quick. Handy Andy will help a bit though.

I've been on Looks for a week now, and I still like them. They offer a huge platform to step on, for very little weight, which is impressive. Un-clipping is different than with eggbeaters, I find that if I pull back with my foot and then rotate it, I clip out easily, but if I just try to rotate, its not so easy to unclip. Something to get used to. I have not done much technical riding yet, will see how that goes.

Feedback after riding Sani2c on Looks:

Pro:

-Huge platform is fantastic, it felt like I had a lot of pedal under my foot to pedal against.

-Very very good mud clearence. We had some mud on the route, had to walk in it here ant there. I did not have to bang my shoe against the pedals at all (like with Shimanos)

-I never had trouble with clipping out quickly. I tried to ride a lot of the water crossings, but some had huge hidden rocks, but I managed to clip out in time to prevent a swim. I saw more than one rider falling over in the water, don't know what pedals they had.

Con:

-One cleat came loose. I am meticulous about my equipment set-up, I have all the tools, 2 torque wrenches, etc, it was well fastened. I recon the thick plastic spacer my shoes need under the cleat was the culprit. With the spacer in, the cleat touches the ground when walking, so on rocks/cement/hard surface this may work the cleat loose. The other issue is that the thick plastic spacer may make it more difficult to get the correct pre-load. I am going to use some loctite on the bolts, but I will go buy some countersinks from Screwman that takes a 4mm Allan key. The supplied cleat bolts take a 3mm one, which could strip with loctite.

Things I can't comment about yet:

-Durability, I have not had them that long. They saw plenty of water and mud, will have to see how they last.

-I found them more difficult to clip in than eggbeaters. This may just be because I am not used to the Looks yet.

Conclusion:

I like them very much so far, low weight, big platform and mud clearence is superb, and the few small issues I have can be overcome.
