Hi All, i thought i would keep everyone up to speed with one of the latest trends in the cycling world and now through the winter months is one of the best times to jump on the wagon. I have been doing pilates through the summer months and my stability on the bike is absolutely incredible now after these pilates sessions, again it does depend on the trainer but private classes and not those offered in the gym are awesome to keep you up to speed. I am currently in Durban and pilates is offered everyday barring the weekends by my instructor and she really does plan a good session. It helps with recovery after hard sessions, definately improves flexibility and most importantly builds your core where most of your power gets lost on the bike through absorbtion with a weak core. Go on give it a try. From as little as R50 a session.

I agree. I go to a private gym in JHB and its helped my core tremendously. Feeling much more confident on technical sections and my balance is wow!

I also attended weekly Pilates classes for the last year or so. Where it really makes a difference is on long marathon rides. The body does not get nearly as exhausted as before and concentration stays sharp. Also had a huge problem with lower back pain on long hard rides. This is now also 90% sorted. Oh, and the wine bag is turning into a 6 pack.
