Dylan Solms Posted May 17, 2011 Share HiI am starting xc and um currently 16 years old and take a medium frame. I have done some research and narrowed my options down to 2 bikes which fit my budget of R10000A new merida matts lite 1000-dor a 2004/2005 litespeed tenasi Specs of the tenasi:Weight: less than 10kgFork: Fox 32 rclDeraileur: sram xoSeatpost: thompson carbonBar: thompson carbonCrank: TruvativBrakes: shimano Specs of merida + picture @ http://merida-bikes.com/en_int/bike/38/MTB+Hardtail/MATTS+Lite+1000-D Do you think the litespeed titanium frame will still be okay and that I won't have any prblems with it. P.S. the merida weighs 11.7kg
Procrates Posted May 17, 2011 Share Take the Ti, you will not regret it. 1)It will outlast the other frame.2)It rides better. (You don't need full suspension on ti)3)As the parts wear off you can replace/upgrade.

King_Crispy Posted May 17, 2011 Share the litespeed is the business! Litespeed WAS the business. Geometry has changed drastically in the last 6 years. Look at the frame and then look at a new frame Have you got a very limited budget and therefore also riding an ancient bike? Both you guys have given really k@k advice. And now for the constructive advice: buy the newest, best frame you can afford, and then upgrade the components as you go along. And don't make the mistake of buying a frame that's too big for you. King_Crispy Posted May 17, 2011 Share That old Litespeed might make a good single speed bike...

Mojoman Posted May 18, 2011 Share R10,000 should give you quite a few choices at the bike shops/online. I would look at buying new rather than old second hand models.
wynandvdmerwe Posted May 18, 2011 Share Look, coming from a Merida fan, I would buy the Titus, but rather for R7500. The Merida is going to be new and nice for a year, then it is going to drop value. Whilst the Titus has already deappreciated, and rather increasing value as time goes on(because of riduculous single speed buildups etc). With that in mind, also look at 29er hardtails... gummibear Posted May 18, 2011 Share I am starting xc and um currently 16 years old and take a medium frame. Be very careful, not all mediums are the same size. They vary from a 55cm top tube to 59cm depending on the Brand.Have a look in the classifieds as there have been some good deals around R10k mark.Try a few bikes and see what is comfortable for you before buying it. PM Chaunce as he has a few good deals going to. https://www.bikehub.co.za/index.php?app=hubmarket&do=view_item&item_id=3989 Edited May 18, 2011 by gummibear
