just a silly Q perhaps, would all of u guys ride a clear frame with no decals at all?

Think it would be kinda cool, no "branding" on any part of the frame and shock

Frame I would consider, but the fork just looks lost without graphic, to me at least.

Maybe if I had a Raleigh...

haha just kidding! and I have nothing against Ralieghs either...

I did in fact think about that last year when I contemplated anodising my DH bike. Morewood said the decals wouldn't adhere to an anodised frame, and laser etching prices were extreme... so I considered running an unbranded bike.

But seeing as though the decals will/should stick to the raw frame... and cos I've already bought them (plus I love the Morewood brand... although true enthusiasts should recognize a morewood frame from a mile away)... I'm going to run it branded.

I may very well run my fork unbranded though. I did that on my Yeti FR bike. Took the Marzo stickers off and put on Arnette stickers. I'm wanting soem Dakine ones for my morewoods fork.

here is my undecaled clear coated trek (not a Raleigh :) )

here is also a closeup showing the worm tunnels of corrosion through pinholes in the clear coat.

A road bike with no decals on frame and fork looks, good.

On an MTB though I still feel partial to some form of graphic on the fork.

Nice looking Roadie Bike there.

Hey Patches.

Is that Morewood finished yet ... sitting on edge here to see the finished product pics!!!!thumbup1.gif

umm... I was a little "less productive" last night. Could only start working on it around 9pm... and felt somewhat lazy... so left it.

Plus getting the paint out of the nooks & crannies is proving to be a real pain in the butt!

Although, with any luck, it should be complete by the weekend!

No pressure patches, but come one now :)

Can I please ask you to drop me a mail at hairylegs.mtb@gmail.com with a good res pic of your other bike you have done previously ... I am 99.6% sold on going Raw, just struggling to get a quote on Morewood Decal Kits.

Emailed 2 x cycle shops, 1 x email to the distributor and 1 x email to the MW factory. Still no reply.

I posted a thread last week on this big 21" MERIDA TFS 800 frame a got.

It really didnt look good at all as some of the clear coat was stripped but not all.

Got a call from a guy who was looking for a big frame.

Decided to see what I can do to make the frame look better. The end product is quite good. It still needs a polish and some decals before new clear coat. I'm sooooooo sad this isnt a 19"

I used Durham chemical paint stripper, 9hours of my time over the weekend and a plastic scraper and very fine steelwool to keep the "brushed look. If youre planning on stripping the frame this way, please use rubber gloves (those yellow dishwashing ones work well) AND a mask (I didnt), had a nagging headache for most of weekend, at least my sinusses are open again :D

So here goes,

BEFORE & After

So where is the built up bike build?

What do you guys think??

Mail sent... but just for any other interested parties out there... Re: the decals...

I got mine through Rushports. Very helpful and big thumbs up to them!

They're not listed on the webstore, and I had other items I wanted to purchase so I phoned 033 346 2300 and spoke to a helpful lady by the name of Kerrigan. She then got me the price on the decal kit and checked availability. It was R295, which I'd imagine is about standard for most of the morewood models, but just check phone and check with Rushsports. I also receved an email from Morewoodkid (Andre) and just confirmed the exact design and colour scheme I wanted. I emailed back with a pic.

Kerrigan then added my webstore basket to the decal order. I paid via EFT, and they shipped that day and I had it in my hands before 11am the next morning.

Very chuffed!

Oh, and if you spend more than R750, shipping is free.

Thanks for your feedback, just read your mail to me now too. I will try Rushsports again (I have already dropped them a mail)

Thanks

I would seriously consider putting a decent coat of clear laquer over that naked frame.

When I was a student I used the same process to strip the ugly gold and black paint off my Alfa GTV's rims. It looked awesome and I got lotsa compliments on the outcome. Then I went to visit my sister in PE and the car stood outside for 3 days in the sea air. Those rims turned dull and ugly. I could never get it to shine again.

ok, so on saturday I really really wanted to go dirt jumping with my friends... so I kinda rushed the last little bit of my project.

I screwed up the main decal (got some bubbles underneath it)... so a bit miffed about that. I also didn't decal up the rear triangle as there are a few places that need some steel wool work. But as I said... I really really wanted to go ride, haha! (I'll finish off the rear triangle when I remove it again to replace the pivot bearings.

TIP: when pushing the bearings back into a Morewood rear triangle, first dip rear triang;e into a bucket of boiling water, causing the bearing holes to expand and therefor allowing one to push the bearings in 75% of the way by hand, and lining them up quite nicely. Then use the SPI2 caps and bolt to push the bearings into final position.

Anyway... blah blah blah... here's what you guys actually want to see:

(please excuse the bad cellphone camera pics)
