Hi All,

I have a Scott Speedster S30 2011 model (18 speed). It currently has the following components (Full specs at http://www.scott-sports.com/us_en/product/10052/55735/218119):

1) 2011 Tiagra ST-4500 Shifters

2) 2011 Shimano 105 RD-5700 Rear Derailleur

3) 2011 Shimano Tiagra FD-4500 Front Derailleur

4) Truvativ TOURO C 2.1 50 x 34 Crankset

5) Sram PG-950 (11-28T) Cassette

I have just purchased a new set of wheels which included a 11-25 Ultegra Cassette. I also want to upgrade my shifters.

My question is, can I upgrade to the new 10 speed 105 ST-5700 shifters (with internal cable routing) using the Ultegra cassette and current RD, FD and crankset?

Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks!!

Yes you can.

Just upgrade the shifters to 10 speed, the rest will work.

I presume the Ultegra cassette you are referring to is 10 speed?

(had to read your post 4 times before I got what you were asking )

Cranks are generally the same - I am guessing that you have double chainrings in the front and 9 speed cassette at the back.

As far as I know, not much changes on the crankset except for the guys trying to make them lighter, so yes, it should work.

So to reiterate, all you need to upgrade is shifters, chain and cassette for the 'speed' that you are looking for (in your case 10 speed)

Thanks Tankman!

Yes it's a 10spd cassette.

Sorry, was my wording that bad? :-(

Nope, it was just deurmekaar and we didnt really need to know exact model numbers of what is on your bike.

A simple, I have a 9 speed grouppo, want to convert to 10, what do I need to change? Would have done the trick! ;)

Will the crank be ok with a 10spd chain?

Yup crank will be fine. The difference between 9speed &10speed on road cranks is a lot of hogwash. Go and buy replacement chainrings and the are sold by the number of teeth not speed. (excluding 11 speed but I have a very strong feeling the difference between 11 & 10 will be the same as 9 & 10)

Doesn't the new "cableless" shifters have different actuation then the previous versions? Can you use older derailleurs with new shifters?
