It's with mixed feelings that I've experienced the felling of forest trees on the Lebanon MTB route recently. Part of me thinks it's losing its character. Part of me thinks it's creating new character. I've only ever enjoyed the three times I've done it over the past six months.

To be sure, there's still plenty of forest trees around and the awesome single track. And some more.

Any thoughts?

What about other trails?

Forest Trees, or Forestry?

Forest Trees, or Forestry?

I mean trees grown for commercial reasons in forests which get felled eventually. I guess I've been found wanting by the grammar police. But hopefully you catch my drift. ;)

I really enjoy Lebanon, not happy to hear that, although i understand its a working forest. My favourite ride in Cape Town.

It really has a fantastic feel riding the single track through those forests.

Plenty of single track in that area, no major loss, the trees will grow back eventually!

Tankman - which do you prefer, Lebanon or Oak Valley? I've never done Oak Valley proper, only the 24-hour event held in January.

No, no dude. No grammar police this time. Just a common mistake people make. Forestry is not Forest, it is plantation. One is beneficial to the environment, the other, not so.

Oak Valley - hands down my favorite!

You have to do the Black route at Oak Valley otherwise you miss out on all the yummy single track!

Semi-hijack....do any of you guys know if the single track that was on offer above Delheim is open to public?

The one we rode during the Die Burger 60km....

THAT may just become my favourite piece of single track!!(this comming from a guy who frequent Lourensford and it's miles of single track!!)

miles = 3.2km

If you put all the singletrack together at Lourensford that sounds about right, 3.2km.

Any other single track I dont know about? It is mostly jeeptrack and farm roads.

Hmm...1 mile = 1.6km....so we are talking mile(s) he he he...

Actually: all the single track are named now, with neat little wooden name boards...

Off the top of my head they are: Canarriebos; Bloekombos; Eagles view; Witboom; Ferns; Lourens meander; Boegoe; Magic Forrest.

Each around 1km long will give you miles and miles of track....OR 8km to be more precise!

There are more on the way - will be ready for Wine to Whales....and then some more....

Yes, you said miles, 1.6 + 1.6 = 3.2km

No, seriously if you think Lourensford has miles and miles of singletrack your are in for a moerse surprise when you go for rides at Oak Valley or the place I recon with the most continuous single track at the moment, Welvanpas.

In my book Lourensford does not qualify as a single track spot. Yes they have single track.

Even the single track at Schapenberg - coming down from rock view on the black route (you know where I went up the climb and you went straight on) is more than all the single track at Lourensford put together.

I hear you....BUT with OAK Valley...are you referring to the laid out sections open to all... or stuff that you explored by yourself? I haven't been to Oak valley myself this year yet - apart from 24hr race...

It would be really interesting to see who / where the longest stretch of single track can be found in western cape...maybe the makings of a new topic??

Welvanpas - agreed, they have great ST...

Oak VAlley - NOTHING beats those build-up berms!! Finish & Klaar...

Schapenberg - that top section just does not flow that niclely for me - (totally my own doing , as the off camber switchbacks are my downfall!!) The bottom red section is very cool, though!!

Lourensford, well all single track there are flowing like you cannot believe it!! Why do you say it does not qualify?? Accessibility?
