chris_w_65 Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 The adjuster is on the gear selector end of the cable, if I slacken it enough so it shifts easily onto a smaller cog then it is very slow to change back up to a bigger gear if at all. Opposite problem if I tension the cable more. I can't find a happy medium. Any ideas please?

dirtrider Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 I am thinking the hanger may be bent Chris turning the adjuster all the way in means you derailure just stopped against the limit and therefor your changing down to that gear works fine . It could be a bend derailure but I thing you need to look on the web on how to set derailures properly . There is a sequence to be followed and just playing with your adjusters will not give you the desired results .
TNT1 Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 Maybe. Try tensioning the cable a bit more as well. In effect that's what the barrel adjuster does, so undo the holding screw and tighten the cable (or lossen it's tension) a bit?

Even if I had an MTB it wouldn't have Alivio on it, it is the Girlfriends bike I would go with SLX 10 speed for myself, I was impressed with it on the MTB I had, would prefer XT though.
