Pop's - Don't buy the combo. Most DVD RAM/Recorders already have up to 250GB.

Rather get a stand alone DVD player/recorder that has HDMI out, progressive scan, and that can upscale to 1080i. Your plasma will only display as good as the source that you are using. A good shop will be able to assist.

10k is a lot of cash - my suggestion, go to a speciliast shop and Demo the product you want, get all the advice, and then go to a mass retailer and try to get exactly the same product at a cheaper price. Mass retailers are not good with specialist advice.

Be careful though as mass retailers often get deals on old stock/last years models and then sell cheap at your expense. Check model numbers carefully.

Happy shopping.

jamm, so I went into the shop and baught a LCD :-)(pick and pay hipermarket one - not the combo) 5ms refresh time

ok, took it home last night, baught popcorn, party frikadelle and all those nammie goetjies.

BUT.. Could not set it, "NO-SIGNAL", at about 22h00, our doggie, "Scooter" was smilling, eating wors rolletjies and the tootie, I was big time de moer in.

So, this morning I phone a "set-up" specialist to come sort the sh*t out.

After a hour, we did not move one inch more than last night, remember, he asked R250 for the call out and R150 per hour, so, my fuse was so short, you could fry a egg in my poepol, so cross I was.

So, I read one piece again and saw.. Phone nr: 011 something to speak to the distrubuters specialist.

So I phone:

Something like this:

Morning: I baught a LCD yesterday, no signal, cannot set it.

D = Sir, look at the back and give me the model number

me= Ok, its number 798965 what ever

D = Ok, You see sir we ordered a thousand of those units, but they came without the recievers (for a mass holliday promotion), we then receive the "receivers" afterwards and install them

We did not have time to do the LCD SCREEN setup.

Go to menu, type in code 7925 (thats out special code to do screen identifications and setups (factory settings setup

And change the model to "LG"

It was setup as a f**king Sanyo or Sony, cant remember.

It just show you, they are all the same, just another piece of plastic housing around with another label name.

Me = Ok, it work , I now have all my channels

OH MY GOSH, WHEN LAST WAS I SO PISSED OFF ?

Oh, and I had to pay the specialist R450 for doing nothing, it was not his fault.

Agreed, what a load of Sh1te.Angry

Who did you end up buying from? If they are reputable, give the Boss a call and get them to sort you out with some form of compensation/voucher/freebie.

The salesman must have made some form of misrepresentation and you have had to fork out your own cash to fix the problem. Unacceptable.

Not coolThumbs%20Down

Now go and buy one of Marius' MVIX players - very nice. you will feel much better.

These Mvix or whatever players.... Let's say we have a DivX movie, does it play 5 channel dolby surround soundtrack? You know what I mean... those sound effects for surround sound? or does it play the same sound through all speakers, effectively 5 channel stereo?

Good greif.... must admit, this is one subject I'm doff about! lol... Had to read from page 1, quite an education.....

Now skool me!

pantani, i'm stupid as well, but you listen to the sound , I think its the front speakers and the next moment a shot came from the speaker behind you, (and remember these sound affects is always like 50% louder than what you listen)

so, the sound effects is coming from somewere else. and its like a canon shooting outside you window

it depends how the movie was ripped. Sometimes the guys rip to divx but only rip the stereo channel. other times its ripped in full 5.1 glory...

also, MVIX doesnt do HD output, so theres no point in me getting one Smile

I'm not the expert on the subject, I just have a silly little 72cm TV with build in speakers... but if I was to ventue a guess, I'd say it'll all depend on were you downloaded the movies from , format and qaulity / size of the movie. Marius2007-12-06 07:44:28

OK... That's what I was thinking of fandacious.... 5.1 or stereo.... so it probably depends on how it was pirated... shoot I mean ripped....

I do a lot of ripping myself... but never to DivX or Avi... I rip to burn to DVD, but it's really becoming a schlep now... I have close on 600 'ripped' DVD's from 2004....
