Fox F100RLT - advice

Recommended Posts

So ........... I will be upgrading my RockShox Recon Solo Air which I have ridden with for the past 2 1/2 years (first on my FSR XC and then on my Epic since January this year!) to a Fox F100RLT tonight  !!!!!!

Any advice from anyone riding this fork who can maybe give some guidance where to start with the adjusters and air (85kg's me!)?

Or ......... should I just go with the manual's recommendations?

And ............ I do know that the settings are not the same for everyone but since I'm off to SabieX next week there won't be that much time to experiment before the racing begins! I also know that often the manual recommendations can be a bit off.

BB,

Go by the book settings.  Had mine now for more than a year.  Only needed to check air pressure once.

Great fork in my opinion!

I could have sprouted copious amounts of unintelligible nonsense however, seeing I don't weigh 85kg's and don't have a Fox F100RLT, I wont bother.

LOL

not close to 85kg but have one  of these on my blur, set it to manual, fiddled a bit and left it. Great fork though.

Thanks casspir, paulvs and KevinFok (Thug?).

Tried to fit it, ok so not so simple cause the steerer tube was just that 10mm too short !!!!

Got a BBB steerer tube extender but it's a humongous thing and weighs some 250grams. All the weight saving from the Recon to the Fox would be undone and we can't have that now can we!

But but but I want it on so me and LBB check out the extender with care, keeping in mind I only needed 10mm so we go next door to the local do anything kit car builder do anything welder cutter oke! Together we manage to reduce it to a mere 80 or so grams and it still worked.

Saturday and Sunday morning I take it out to our local provincial XC course at the Rietvlei zoo farm and it works a treat, buttery smooth it is. Definitely better 'small' bump' compliance than the Recon and it feels like it tracks better in corners.

I used the standard settings for my weight out of the manual and guess that if necessary I will do some fine tuning at SabieX. There'll be lots of time with 4 days of riding some 260k's with nearly 6000 meters of climbing !!!!!

And and and .......... the platinum against that black/red combination also looks the dogs .............. !!!!!!!!!

Here's a pic of the fing! Had this discussion some time ago on the hub and didn't do it on another fork but now that I've seen it and how it works it is no problem to extend any steerer tube albeit at the expense of some additional weight of course. By the time we were finished with it it was less than a 1/3 of this length!

Can you not put a headset with a lower stack into the frame, recover the missing 10mm and change the stem to get the bars to the same position? Much light, stronger solution if you can do it.
