Bike for Sani2C Adv

I did the adventure this year with a Morewood Zula. The bike went like a dream. OK the brakes gave me some issues on Day 3, but that was about it.

I agree with the comments above. Buy a bike you love to look at, that makes you want to ride it. Not a bike for an event, I think that's stupid.

There were plenty 29ers on this years event. I even passed a whole bunch of them. At the end of the day it comes down to the conditioning of your legs and your @ss. Do the saddle time and you'll be fine regardless of the bike and wheel size you choose.

The trance is an awesome bike and for a whole lot less cash I'm sure you can do a pretty sweet upgrade and have it as good as new. It may not be the perfect setup for a race like Sani2c, but it will do the trick. I mean a pro would use a 29er hardtail for sure but hey you not a pro and you should go for what you are most comfortable on even if it is a trail/AM bike as opposed to a XC rig with less travel and possibly no rear suspension.

292929292929292929292929292929292 is all I can say - Been on a S-works dual for 2 years and recently bought a cannondale flash 29er (HARD TAIL) --- chalk and cheese my friends.

Ok

  • Are you racing or having fun on the Sani?
  • Are you looking for a light weight frame or something that will take a beating?
  • Is tyre clearance for large volume tyres important to you?
  • Is a new bike essential or would you go for a good second hand deal?
  • Just how aggressive are you on the trails?
  • My personal preference between a Merida (That silly 120 something or other range) and either a Spesh Stumpy (140mm travel) or the Camber (120mm travel) would most certainly be the Spesh. This based on a ride on both the Stumpy and Merida 120 something on a back to back basis and on the same trail.

Your current Trance:

  • How high / low are your handle bars currently compared to your saddle when scribing a horizontal line from the saddle to handlebars.
  • For all you know just setting the Trance up might change the whole way the bike handles.
  • Save the 20k or pimp the Trance out
  • Bad shifting can be attributed to worn, dirty or poorly set up components or your hanger might also be bent slightly.

If you really want to go the 29'e deal and you ride a medium then this is a GREAT DEAL <<======click on great deal for the great deal!

I agree 100%.

BTW, I did the Sani, W2W & GR300 with a Cannondale DS and don't know a lot about Merida but what I meant was buy the bike or brand you like, that will motivate you. My personal goal is to do the next 3 with multi-day events with a single-speed, forked Niner, but we'll still see about that next year
