Lovely morning in Magalies, sunny and a little misty but promising to warm up. Forecast for tomorrow (on SABC weather) is for sun and no rain.

Looking forward to a chilly start with the swim!

Podium place come to pappa!

Who knew this duathlon thing could be so lekker? I especially liked the run over the mountain, wasn't expecting that, this being my first off-road duathlon. Gonna have to practice baboon-mode :)

I doubt I will do another Sasol tri. Had to pay an additional R20 to get through the gate. No mention of that in any emails, in fact, unlike the Xterra, there were no emails updating you, that should have been part of the fee or was it a chance fleecing of participants? There was no water point on the ride, granted 21km is not far but I took less than when I did the xterra as I thought there would be a water point. The ride was a loop, a dangerous loop with people racing in both directions and not enough room, that was a stupid idea. I don't think any thought went into that route. The water point on the run had only tepid water. OK so I am not one of the fast guys but still, my entry is the same as anyone elses and I would have appreciated a cold water. Glad I finished and had some fun but unless they jack it up I won't enter again. Thumbs up to the guys who do the Xterran, this is only my second little triathlon but I know which one I would do again...

The dual direction riding on singletrack did pose a problem, but I think overall it did not ruin a well-run event at a beautiful venue. The marshalls were really friendly and supportive, that always helps :)

Ruined it for me, almost collided with someone coming from the opposite direction, what would have happened then? I did not hear at the pre race briefing any mention of there being a section of dual direction riding. Who has right of way here? Those heading out or those heading back?

Yes the marshals were good as were the guys ready to rescue us in the water!

I did actually see a crash, and lost plenty time due to oncoming traffic, so agree we cant have traffic going in both directions on twisty singletrack. But I'm sure they can get around that for next time. Hope so, cos I'll be there :)

I must agree with you guys, although I enjoyed the race allot, there was room for improvement!

The entry fee to enter venue was unexpected and we didn't have cash on us,luckily there was some small change.

I stressed on the bike because there was no water point I was worried that the run will also not have one and the single track both directions was messy.

And must agree the emails from Xterra guys were great...

But all in all it was enjoyable, will be at harties next month.

HI Guys, sorry to hear that you didnt have a great experience at the race! just to clarify

1. when the mtb route was setup it was assumed that all the athletes would be out of the singletrack by the time the front cyclists came back in. As safety is a major concern at any Spectrum sport event this will be taken into concideration for future events.

2. Water points on the cycle leg will be taken into consideration for future events

3. the warm water at the water point will be taken up

4. The issue about the athletes having to pay at the gates has been taken up with the venue owners already as this was never mentioned and seems to be an issue of someone at the gate trying to make a quick buck. once again please accept our apologies

thanks for the valuable feedback! without this it is difficult to understand the athletes requirements and were we can improve to give you a better event

Water was very warm definitely not wetsuit conditions. Cant say I had any issues with 2 way traffic I'm not that fast  remember folks when you go out on a MTB take your own water anything can happen this is not a road triathlon. Maybe this is why I was a little slower than the others. I had 1.5 litres of ice cold water and ice cubes to carry. As for the bouldering exercise all great just missed the opportunity to sit in the river and cool off. Whats with the purple T shirts ?! I dont swing that way. Sasol branding colours are blue and white.

Awesome, thanks for the reply,I understand that allot of work goes into one of these events and is not easy.

Its great that there is a platform where we can communicate and work to a even better Sasol Cross series.

Thanks again and see you in Harties

Does anyone know who the sunscreen sponsor was ? they had a cutie spraying the stuff on. It worked better than anything I have used in the past and would like to buy some.

Thanks for the feedback, glad to see you have taken the time to find comments about the race. Prehaps you could do an email update to participants that would let you know if there are to be water points etc, forwarned is forearmed!
