100km MTB route from Pretoria East???

Squier

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm looking for some detail on a relatively interesting and exciting 100km MTB route starting from Pretoria-East. Any detail will be appreciated!

I know that I can get on the Delmas Road and do 50kms out and back but was hoping that someone has something a bit more engaging.

Many thanks!

Hi Squier,

You can do the railway line road to the viaduct or even further past Bapsfontein or another route we sometimes do past the Diamond Hill tollgate cross the Bronkhorstspruit road and then another loop east of it, one option is just over a 100km's and the other about 125km's

To add a bit of excitement you can do 2 of the 3 bike parks in the area for some single track before you get on to the district roads.

Have fun and enjoy

OK, what I usually do is

From Equestria I cycle to Groenies, do a lap there and return over Klapperkop, Rigel and then through Moreleta on De Villa Bois. Then I head out on Atterbury and do the Zwavelpoort plotte. Up to here is 80km. Then from the plotte go over Lynwood past the Chicken farm and do the gravel roads on the Hazeldean side of Lynwood (include the railway line). Its about 100km or maybe a bit more

How about riding to Voortrekker Monument and do 2 long loops there (28km), then cruise down to Groenkloof and start with 2 laps at Fountains (15km), then hit 2 long loops at Groenkloof (37km). That's 80km of bliss. Add your commute and you're at your target distance.

We've done the loop over Klapperkop toe Groenies with the Johan Rissik drive rolling hills and back. It's a fun route and with two laps at Groenies comes to about 75kms. It's an option but I don't really want to do more laps at Groenies as it becomes monotonous.

Instead of riding loops I'd rather ride to a point and loop back.

More details please. I don't even know where the railway road is. This sounds like what I had in mind!

Is it safe to head towards Bapsfontein?

Nowhere is safe to ride in the bush these days unfortunately

We've never encountered any safety issues but never be complacent. PM me your number and I'll call you with the details

Add Klapperkop to that list. Some nice routes and climbs there too.

We do home to Groenkloof, then:

1 x Fountains

1 x Voortrekker

1 x Klapperkop

1 x Groenkloof

and back home. Gives us around 80 km. So, by doing either Voortrekker or Groenkloof twice will give you 100.

I stay in Centurion, so its only 13km to Groenkloof for me.

Anyone keen to get a group together for some of these? I'm away from the 15th to the 20th so I'm keen to ride anytime from 21Dec.

What AVG speed are you looking at?

We do around 19-20km/h. But this also depends on the route you take.

I'll be keen, but am busy this weekend, and next weekend is Christmas. I am off from next week for two weeks though.

I ride from the cnr of H/S and Lynnwood most Tuesdays and Thursdays but am looking for some longer rides to do over Dec with base training in mind.

Let me know if anyone is interested, maybe we can hook up over the weekend / after the 15th in the morning.

Guy's,

Work out a route that takes you to the west of Pretoria via Van der hoff road.

Then go up Hornsnek (M17)and once over turn left at the first district road marked with board num 168,

From here you can get onto some of the Vori-Berg route and have a few laps of the circuit

Contact me 082 903 4211

Cheers

Clive
