Been offerred accomodation in Ramsgate over Christmas / New year, BUT I have a lot of training to do over that period. Does anyone know if there are any decent Road and MTB routes out that way?

The coastal road is good. Wide verges and rolling hills. I head south for Pt Edward / T'kei so can't speak for going north. The local guys ride down south, and then take the Oribi Gorge Rd (I think) which is down towards Pt Edward. Apparently there is a coffee shop somewhere down there too.

I've ridden inland from the Southbroom intersection (there are some dirt roads there running next to the main road that turn inland) and never had any hassles, but you do feel somewhat the token whitey.

What is very lekker is to take the turnoffs along the coastal road and ride through the towns along their beach road - Liesure Bay etc. Tends to be pretty, and if you ride at a reasonable time the eye-candy can be not too terrible either.

Near Port Edward there is a MTB trail. I went there last year and did a ride on rented bikes. The trail is amazing but rather bring your own bikes to avoid 'pain in the rump'.

You turn right in the town and go up the hill, go past the coffee shop and turn left following the signs. On the edge of the gorge is a place where you pay for the trail. I am sorry I have no better directions. That will be my ride this Christmas while visiting the inlaws.

Thanks Guys! Sounds like there are enough reasons (aka ridable miles) to head out that way
