Leturbo, saw you roll into the finish area with a smile and 1000 yard stare. I gave you a shout but I think you were only focused on your medal and getting a coke.

Mtbroadie, pleased to meet you buddy, seriously strong ride from you today, deserved that podium recognition!

I suffered from the early efforts over helz and trying to get the break, dropped off our Stars breakaway with 10km to go and finished 5 minutes after you in a time of approx 3h.

I have my doubts about the top 3 positions...

Humph!

According to the results, a Stars rider beat the high-powered Elite bunch by almost 8 minutes.

And positions 2 & 3, hmmm...

I have my doubts about the top 3 positions...

AS well as pos 42, 43 and 60 whistling.gif

edit...... sorry, not 46

@MTB_Roadie,

What happened to you, is that at the start, the guy who is supposedly 3rd went over the mats after you, say he crossed 3seconds after you, ie he started at the very back of the bunch, that way, he could finish up to 3 seconds behind you and still beat you...thumbdown.gif

Has happened to me before too.

So last night I think, "Hey! The red Colnago's never done a race!" so pumped the tyres and packed the bag (why does it take so long). Remembered my timing chip at the last minute.

I spotted you this AM but thought, no, he doesn't usually race this bike, so left it.

That sux! The group start time is the group start time whether you start at the front or the back of the bunch. Actually, the front guys should get a 1 sec advantage for being so disciplined on being there on time.

I checked the times on racetec...we have exact identical times...but I know for fact I was before him...maybe his name helped him along as he cycles for that Cedar club since they take up half the STARS group...but now I know so I will just have to beat them further :P

But at the Pro Classic prize giving were you called up as 3rd or him?

OK, so seeing that race reports are flying in here, lemmie post mine.

I started at 6:33 with the A,B,C PPA bunch. Had Shan Wilson (spelling?) pace us until Hels as he was late for the SV race start and was now motoring to catch them. He dropped us like hot potatoes but 2 guys followed - a guy in he bunch shouted at them not to chase as there is still a long way to - they still went.

Climbed with the guys up Hels, dropping MariusL? Was a strange sight but he is feeling fatigued from doing 100Km plus rides every day the past month - completely understandable!

The rest of the race was 'same old, same old' - the usual wheel suckers, the usual workers on the front. We caught the one breakaway dude on the road towards Paarl. The other guy was in the distance, just not worth the chase.

On Klipheuwel Road (R304), it was just myself and another guys rotating the pulling - the rest were in one straight stripe behind us sitting wheel.

With 8Km to go, I think eff this! and proceed to ride at my own pace - around 36km/h into the wind. I dropped the bunch solid and was looking at podium finish for the group. Just past the climb after the fruit sellers 4-way, I look back. A breakaway bunch has formed and is chasing me down. At the same time I can see the early breakaway guy getting closer and closer.

With about 3km to go, the 6 guys breakaway guys catch me, after I slowed knowing they were going to catch me either way. I sat in with them and chased the lead guy down - I caught him but thought I had pulled away from the rest - no such luck. The 6 guys flew past me and I did not have the momentum or the legs to sprint.

I finished 7th in the bunch, 134 overall (well 128 if the anomalies are removed), 2:48:11

One thing that irked me, like others that posted here - the guy that finished ahead of me sucked wheel the entire way. That miffed me quite a bit because that position was not earned, it was 'stolen'. blink.png

It may just be me, but I feel that a person sitting in a group must at least commit one pull during the course of the race.thumbup1.gif but like I say, it may just be me......

My winnings for the day....... I did have 9 tickets though so it made the chances greater - 1 out of nine is a good day.

2 x Kenda Kriterium tyres (as some know, I go through tyres like crazy!)

1 x Blackburn Slick red bottle cage

1 x Pedal Power bottle

1 x Pedal Power chain stay protector

Thanks to Omnico and PPA for that sponsor clap.gif clap.gif clap.gif

He was called up 4th.....

Thats pretty unfair, but you (MTB_R) can always lodge a complaint when they send the results out and give option to lodge an appeal.

When I was U14, last year, if people didn't work up front I shouted at them, if I was really pissed i'd just bolt of the front, but now being a 1st year again I don't feel comfortable telling elders what to do, just doesn't feel right.

But Tiny, next time just shout, it works thumbup1.gif

Yes maybe I should do that, but I wanted to stand on the podium, it means jack now afterwards...but its fine, i will be back stronger and faster, this time I will just do it fair....they will probably make me pee in a cup then....this was my first league race ever so I think I done very well... :D

And you know the route of the race next week well now :) after our recce, you shouldn't have a problem getting on the podium.

Of course, that is taking into consideration that the rider who soloed a faster time than the Elites doesn't turn up with a few of his very, very, very, very strong friends
